Nice quiet Sunday lunch sitting by the fire in the bar. Service good, seafood chowder and roast pork with plenty of veggies all very good. Plenty of additional space out the back for larger parties.

11th January 2022.Superb meal, divine Champagne and wine, excellent service, friendly, attentive staff, warm, relaxing atmosphere. Every aspect of our 5 individual meals was beautifully executed and tasted delicious. We are absolutely delighted and very thankful for a fabulous evening 💕💕💕

Used to visit very regularly but as our family grew and prices like everywhere else went up, we only go for occasions now. Our last visit on a Sunday evening was one such time. It was a cold evening and our table was upstairs nearest to the kitchen. We had booked for 6 people. There seemed to be only a couple of tables used upstairs at this time. Seemed to be plenty of staff around. Drinks took a while to get ordered and a while to come. Once we placed our food order it came in good enough time. All food was tasty from starter to dessert. Felt that service was on the slow side on every order and after other tables left we felt slightly forgotten about. It got quite cold too, no fires on either which would have added to the atmosphere, but they did adjust the temp up slightly when I asked. Still cold and had to put my coat on. Overall the night was marred by below par service. I'm sure there are pressures at the moment with staffing but a bit of training in customer care would boost what they have....oh and putting the fires on (in all the years I have gone here, Marquis inc, I have never gone in here on a winter's night and a fire not been on).

We had booked for lunch at 12.30. The downstairs area was freezing, I ate my meal with my coat on (staff didn't mind... while loads of tables near the fire were free). We had turkey&ham dinner, rib eye and sirloin steaks. Both ordered medium-rare, both came nearly well done. Didn't return them to not mess atmosphere up.Mash and sides absolutely unspectacular. We were asked if we wanted sauce with the steaks. Sure! It got billed 2£ each while being terrible (watery and nothing but salty). And that's with a 27£ steak!Overall, it was heavily overpriced, overpromised and underdelivered on nearly every level. Not upset by choice, but have to close several eyes to stay so.Oh and don't be asking for Guinness Zero. Will try to stay away.

Lovely pub. Sitting by the fire with a bowl of seafood chowder and their chunky wheaten bread was a lovely lunch.

NICE FOOD BUT POOR SERVICEOverall the food was lovely here apart from a few pieces of gristle in the chicken croquettes however the flavour was lovely. We visited on 7th November 2021 as a party of four for Sunday lunch. Maybe we just got a bad day but the service was very poor. Seated at a table and then asked to move as the server had made a mistake. The table we went to was very small for four people. When we received our starters my father had to go and ask for a spoon for his soup. Mains were brought and again had to ask for cutlery. We asked for some water for the table and this didn't arrive until the main was nearly finished. When the server collected the plates a knife dropped behind onto my father's back without the server noticing. In saying that the table was very tight and they found it difficult to bring and take the food. I don't blame the server but she came across as very inexperienced..didn't know the soup of the day and had to check. The food overall was good but the service and seating let this place down.

Beautiful food, amazing settings and great staff.Had to ask for fresh cutlery when things were taken away and new food brought... but they were always supper quick and professional when doing so, so only a minor detail that I'm sure is just a post covid oversight.Hats off to the chefs... it was well worth the one hr drive for my birthday meal.

This is a lovely restaurant with a good reputation and was busy the day we were in so have to forgive certain things. My food, the Sunday roast pork belly was really lovely. My mate however ordered the lamb and gnocchi and having been sat down a bowl of lamb and a side of chips, enquired to the fate of his gnocchi, and was told that they had run out. He was very disappointed, and left some lamb too where the fat wasn't rendered down. However apologies were made and a complimentary dessert offered. Not sure he would rush back but as said, I couldn't fault my meal.
