I visited the Alchemy on the 18th of February, it was our 50th Anniversary on the 9th, we had our wedding reception there only it was called the Railway Tavern, my mum and myself could not do the stairs, so we were seated all together, with the tables in a kind of circle, we could all see each other, the staff were all very nice and helpful, very chatty with good personalaties, they were very attentive as they were to the other tables, the food was delicious and enjoyed by all, it brought back many good memories from 50 years ago, we hope to return soon, we all had a really great night, thank you all.

Have been before and we had a fantastic meal, but tonight it was awful. Kids chicken nuggets the chicken was brown an overcooked, just threw down on the plate. I'd got the squid before an an it was really nicely presented with prawn crackers an the slaw was lovely, tonight it was like slop an the squid was half the size. Salad an slaw was brown an whilted. Got the steak for my main which was just ok in comparison to when we were here last July it was like a different place. Defo wouldn't be back in a hurry anytime soon! I like to go somewhere were I couldn't cook better myself but this was just basic food no effort an at the price it was was extremely disappointing. Good points staff where lovely!

We decided to give this place another chance as we had been before and there had been a mix up with the menu. Really disappointing. Ordered the Fish with veg and saute potatoes and both fish and asparagus was overcooked. Fish skin was flabby and inedible. Another person got the lamb and jus and there was so much jus over the lamb ,with squashy fruit inside (which was horrible) and chopped up asparagus that the Lamb itself was lost. The lamb was overcooked and tough and very fatty anyway and most of it was uneaten. Lamb and jus was also only tepid. Children complained also that the garlic chunks had absolutely no garlic flavour at all. Service was OK which is why we gave it 2 stars but will absolutely not be back. Very very disappointing.

Watch out for phantom drinks on your bill. The food was pretty good. Ordered the steak and although it was sent back for being overcooked the replacement was spot on and delicious.

Usually We have a reasonably good experience here at the newly named The Alchemy but I ordered the simple fish and chip. Don't take it. Its thrown up like something you would get in a high street cafe... nothing charming, nothing remotely memorable about this olde favourite.. They must have changed the chefs, who knows. We'll still go back.

For my first proper meal out in ages I chose very poorly. Dined here with a friend last night and we were both bitterly disappointed in the quality of food and the choices on the menu. For a limited menu you would expect the quality to be great... NOPE!Starters weren't bad, the choice was 3 different salads or soup. I went for the halloumi fries salad and it was ok (I was hungry). Next for mains we both ordered the chicken and bacon stack, the other choices were fish and chips, burger, or a vegetarian option of roasted cauliflower. There were also steaks but £37 for a fillet steak here? You wouldn't even pay as much as that in the Merchant.Unfortunately the main meal was barely edible, the chicken was so over cooked I couldn't even get my knife through it round the edges, very dry, soaked in peppercorn sauce maybe to try and hide the fact? You would nearly think it had been cooked earlier and reheated. Tobacco onions weren't crispy yet some were burnt?Passed on dessert, just wanted to go after that. We did mention to the waitress and said she would pass it on. I felt sorry for the waiters and waitresses, they were lovely but unfortunately food is terrible. Will definitely not be back.

Worst fillet steak I've ever had or seen ! Asked me how I liked it , I said medium and it came out burnt as hell itself, my partners meal was overdone also and bit cold , I looked across the table at other diners and I think they were having the same problems, I use to come here often for a nice meal when it was named the Tannery , and the fillet and hanger steaks they served were divine , I've had a birthday meal there with friends I've took my parents for nice meals also when it was the Tannery but after that fiasco recently I'll never be back , I ordered a 36£ fillet steak and it was terrible , I've never seen a peice of meat killed twice before untill they placed the burnt offering before me , the hanger steaks that used to be served here would shame that fillet cut any day and at half the price , Definitely will not be back here again, ☹️☹️☹️
