After being "rejected" by my bucket list course the 2010 @celtic manor because its members only tee times from 3pm, I decided to have a look at an alternative place to take my money.I must say I was not disappointed, this has shot up to my number 1 course! The course is challenging, however my massive selling point was the "eye candy" each hole is crafted beautifully, greens run true and its just a stunner well worth the ÂŁ160 I paid and will return without hesitation again. The views into the coast line makes you wish it was a 10 hour round, I was only a 1 ball and did get stuck behind a 4 ball however there was nothing behind me so just kept replaying holes, you say each course has a signature hole but in my view each hole is the signature hole!If you are thinking about playing it and have the green fee I can't recommend this any higher. It beats my other courses:LittlestonePrincesThe AddingtonBurhillGO AND PLAY IT!

One of the 'great' courses and in excellent condition. Together with Pyle and Kenfig, a fantastic duo of courses in this lovely part of South Wales. Well worth visiting

Played the course as part of Sean Coyle Tour.Absolutely stunning!Clubhouse steeped in history, great friendly service.Well stocked professional shop and service with great humour. You have to play this course more than once if you want a chance of a good score. Personally posted 34pts off 19 which became one of my best 8 scores on whs and reduced my index to 17.0.

Following reading and hearing a lot of good reviews about this course, I booked and paid for a round at Royal Porthcawl with my girlfriend. The excitement of playing such a well thought of course was extremely short lived however, as whilst the scenery was simply stunning and the majority of the course was in decent condition, the greens and surrounding areas were simply awful. The greens were diseased, and were very bobbly as a result of these patches. Also, the grass on the greens was extremely long, due to the club letting them grow out to recover from heavy green maintenance which was carried out some 2 weeks prior to our visit. As a result, the greens were beyond slow and it was almost like putting on a fairway.Additionally to this, all of the fringes, up to the green edge had been heavily and intrusively spiked, which offered nothing except more disappointment, as any putt or chip from green side would just bounce all over the place and go nowhere, and after a while it became a bit of a pointless exercise, as I would have had more joy putting across a cobbled pavement. Below is a photo of one of the greens showing this.I sent the club an email to question this once I had returned home, which was completely ignored for 5 days. It was only when I followed up on this, did I receive a blunt response of “Thank you for your email and feedback which has been taken on board”.This response, as well other replies from the club to various follow up emails was as much of a surprise as the course condition, in that there was virtually zero empathy to the fact I had paid £150 for a green fee, and had driven over 200+ miles from Kent to play this course, only to find the greens and fringes in this condition. I also asked the question of why I wasn’t contacted prior to my visit to advise of the current condition of the course and informed that it had not recovered, however, I got nothing in the way of an answer on this. There was also zero appreciation from the club that £150 for a green fee is a lot of money and does not provide value for money, as I was quickly shooed off with a response of "I believe the green fee of £150 options very good value for money especially when you compare our rates with other top 100 golf courses”. This may be true when the course is in normal condition, but based on what we received it was a ludicrous statement from the club.Royal Porthcawl Golf Club are obviously more than willing to take your money, and then serve up whatever they like with no warning. If you then dare to question this, you are met with a “tough luck” attitude.Hopefully I am the only unlucky visitor to this club, but as for a potential return…….not a chance, as I don’t fancy being ripped off AGAIN !!!!

Rest Bay beach, a beautiful place where the sands meet the rocks. The children can have a safe swim in the pools created by the tide and you can also pick a perfectly shaped rock, to paint at home :)

Possibly one of the best courses the UK has to offer. Sure, it's a bit steep for a green fee, but we'll worth it. Old school rules with excellent and personal service. Club members there that I spoke to we're extremely nice and welcoming.I'll definitely play here if I'm in Wales again

Fantastic links course. Demanding but fair, just don’t venture any further than the semi-rough.We stayed in the Dormy House and after a great Welsh Breakfast, enjoyed a Sunday morning tee time and some very generous weather. It was late October and the perfect conditions coincided with Wales v France, so the course was maybe a little quieter than usual. We had great service from the team in the clubhouse and from the pro shop and used the excellent practice facilities before going out.The course itself was in great condition, greens were true although a bit slow for our liking. In fairness probably the length they need to be to maintain year round condition. Great views from every hole and lots of wildlife - even the Peregrine Falcon has a good grasp of etiquette, kindly dragging its kill off the green as we approached!A premium experience, will definitely be coming back here.

An absolutely amazing place. It has to be one of the best courses in the UK. A tough test of golf in the wind but the course was in superb condition. The professional and bar staff were very friendly as well.

Great along by rest bay as they have a easy walking boardwalk as you can see in the photo, its great for people who have walking difficulties and wheel chair friendly and a lot of lovely benches to sit and take in the view. There are toilets a mobile food and drinks they are building a new visiting centre should be finished this summer..Car Park is pay and display disable free.Car Park shuts at 7pm but if your car is still in there you can still get out after that time. There is a RNIL there.Great beach for surfers and body boarders but the sea at Rest Bay does have strong rip currents be aware if your not a strong swimmer dont go out to far, its stronger when the tide is turning...Otherwise enjoy this little gem part of Wales and golden beaches...
