Very good, efficient and well controlled with good food

My wife and I were staying in the hotel last weekend, celebrating a special occasion. We expected the restaurant to be a reflection of the strong reputation that the Hilton has built.. unfortunately this was not the case.We decided to give 2 stars for 3 reasons:1. Our waiter was very friendly and apologetic, he managed a difficult service with a smile and we appreciated his efforts.2. The champagne/prosseco/cava was good. We were disappointed that there was not a wine list however the sparkling white wine that was provided (we never got to the bottom of what it was!) was very drinkable.3. The crispy squid starter was delicious.Unfortunately, that is where the praise stops. We did complain about the food and service, we did receive a 15% discount on our meal however we had a far superior experience at Miller & Carter (300 yards away) the following night for less than our meal at Grey (even with the discount).The bread basket appetizer (£4) included 4 small pieces of bread and some oil, one piece of bread was half a slice of commercial white bread.We waited 1 hour and 50 mins for our main to arrive (I had promised my wife that we would walk out at the 2 hour mark but it would have been much sooner if it were not for the champagne/prosecco/cava, at this stage it was after 10pm and we were trying to celebrate).Our complaints were dealt with efficiently and professionally, however you expect more from an establishment associated with the Hilton and the difference was stark when compared to Miller & Carter.

Our afternoon teas were a gift for our 40th Anniversary, can only say fabulous!!!food was gorgeous staff very welcoming and friendly especially Bessam, thank you we will be back.😋😘

The place is nice but the food took a while to come and when it did it was nothing special. Some aspects of the dish were clearly microwaved. The food was nice but basic. Probably wouldn’t go again.

Bottomless prosecco is "Bottomless" to an extent. We're regulars here for bottomless prosecco, however the last few times, we've had differing experiences. The last time, our waiter told us rather openly that our "Bottomless" prosecco wasn't actually bottomless and we were foolish for thinking so. We complained, and the manager was fantastic. It took about a year to return for a party, and another mistake was made fairly early on with the timing of our Bottomless prosecco brunch. At the end of our time, we'd been empty glassed for almost 25 minutes. I approached the staff and stated we'd been without a drink for a period of time, when the staff had attitude about their own mistake. I stated this was not our mistake, but the attitude of staff has got to a point now where we will probably not return. The experience is fantastic, but the staff can quickly bring it down with their poor attitude, and multiple mistakes that are made. Besides this, I absolutely recommend it for at least one time, for £28.50pp, it's most definitely a fantastic experience; just don't expect excellent customer service.

Underwhelming and overpriced. We waited 30 mins for our menu and first glass of boozy brunch prosecco... Nearly an hour for our first course, with our second course arriving after our time ran out. Added to this, the prosecco was flat, it was very noisy and just not a very nice experience for the price. I would rather have gone to an independent restaurant for less money. The food was average in all honesty.

Went for afternoon tea - wasnt amazing, service was okay and definitely overpriced.

The hostess was professional and polite addressing all of our questions about the menu. The sirloin steak was dry and tasted horrible, and the manager kindly offered either a replacement or a complimentary dessert. Sticky pudding was nice and the pastry busket was fresh and totally worth it!Avoid the coffee at all costs!Price-wise, quite expensive for Cardiff and I would say it is at least £££-££££.

Prosecco brunch was a brilliant experience. First class food and the waiters/waitresses made sure our glasses were topped up. Even on an extremely busy Saturday customer service was outstanding. Will definitely visit again.

This restaurant is attached the the Cardiff Hilton so the prices are geared towards those staying at the hotel. I ate here two nights in a row, the first was steak which was good by British standards (although doesn't compare to an Omaha steak for example) and the second was the lobster club which was really epic, maybe the best thing I have eaten in a restaurant in the U.K.
