Rock & Malt in Cardiff

We live locally so have ordered from here for going on 7yrs now. What was previously the best fish & chips in Cardiff is now a bit 'meh'.Chips are mostly still ok, though not on the level they used to be. The biggest issue is now the speed of service... or more so, the lack of speed of service. I am genuinely at a loss at how slow it is these days. The wait is regularly over 30mins, even when there are only a handful of customers in the queue. It's a real shame, as this was a bit of a hidden gem in Pontcanna.We used to eat here almost once a week... but it's now probably once a month... every time it's a frustrating experience.

Oh Dear If only they weren't so rude & miserable I'd come here more often

I havent been here for a while , has it changed ownership as the fish was awful 😕

New owners, shocking service. After forgetting to order an item and spending what is already a lot for fish and chips to be told I need to spend another £5 to be able to use my card for forgotten item Is very poor. Old owner so welcoming and friendly, new staff not so much. With other equally as good establishments in the area I will not be going back.

Never really head to Cardiff, we did winter wonderland and my 4yr old daughter stated she wanted chips. Very specifically "from a chip shop"Very good food, staff are friendly, chips were very nice and my daughter wanted more

Waited for half an hour for fish and chips for 2 people... a guy infront of us only ordered chips and was waiting for 25mins. When we eventually got to the front, the chips were white and obviously undercooked. The guy stated that they were white and looked soft because they were a "new type of potato". So we politely asked for a refund and were asked to wait outside and rudely put to the side. By this point after 60mins of being there and just pleading with the guy for the money back, we were told that it's been "cancelled" even though we didnt tap the card for the money back and were told that it's not possible to have a receipt for the refund. Spoken to my bank and they said that you cannot issue a refund without the card. So, the guy lied to us and effectively has stolen £20 from me without anything to show for it. On top of this, we were shouted at and spoken down to infront of 6 or 7 other customers.

LOVE this fish and chip shop. The best in Cardiff! Great staff and sizeable portions!

Excellent food and friendly staff. Been going there every week since they opened - fantastic fish and chips - week after week. Big portions too. Really worth a detour to visit - but please avoid Saturdays about 7.30pm as I don't want to have to join a queue!

I would highly recommend this chip shop. I travel from the other side of Cardiff to use this place. Their food is always so fresh and tasty. Service is amazing and so is the price. Best chip shop in Cardiff

Best fish and chips I’ve had in Cardiff.Crispy batter, perfect chips, good portions.Never had any issues, foods always been fresh and tasty. Treat yourself to a bag of onion rings for the journey home. Absolutely banging.
