The Golden Lion in Monmouthshire

Visited after a funeral, the finger buffet was plentiful and delicious, staff friendly helpful and polite

I' m vegan and due to health reasons I cannot eat dairy and egg. I went here for Sunday lunch and there was 1 option for me on the menu, so I ordered it. I explained to the waitress I can't have dairy or egg!! and when my meal came out it had my allergies on the plate so had to send it back after telling them I had couldn't eat these foods. There was very little veg between the 2 of us so I came away still hungry and it cost quite abit for a for a small amount of food.However, there was a good band on so I did stay for that.

It’s got a lovely garden to enjoy a cool drink in the hot sunshine. Lots of atmosphere. Handy for the village square.

We visited for lunch (booked table via email) when it was the May Day fair in the square outside so very busy. Food was very good, but took a long time to arrive. We put this down to how busy they were and the fact only a couple of servers were dealing with the whole restaurant. It turned out they were having problems with their payment card system too, which was showing things down.It's a nice environment, perfectly located in Magor and there's a large beer garden (though we sat inside). Good range of beers.

Top notch pub food and a very good selection of drinks. Lovely setting in the main square and very comfortable inside.

Really Nice evening here, food was lovely, staff really friendly. Only thing i would say is we would have liked the condements to be on the table. Definately going back x

Great stop just off the motorway. Nice change from the usual services. Friendly staff. Good food.

Good food, lovely building. Very nice setting. Some good (common) alcoholic drinks but a poor beer selection lets it down a bit. The drinks are extremely expensive, too. Will visit regularly nonetheless.

Visited here a few times during a stay nearby,staff were great especially Oscar. The foodwas excellent on each occasion, they were veryaccommodating and even though it gets prettybusy we never seemed to wait very long for ourfood. My favourite was the roast dinner servedon Sundays, but the menu is great with weeklyspecials. Fantastic place, nice beer gardentoo, compliments to the Chef and all the staff,brilliant!!

Excellent food with incredible staff! We have been twice this past month from Barry and its worth the travel. Great place to eat with really delicious food. I can't wait to go back again!
