We booked a table for us to dine out with our friend, to enjoy a Sunday lunch together, having not eaten out with her for months due to illness. The table was booked by phone on the Friday evening, and we happily paid a £15 deposit to secure our booking.Unfortunately our friend tested positive for Covid by Saturday morning, so I promptly phoned and asked to cancel the table, I was told I could roll the deposit forward to another booking.I explained that we lived 35 miles away in Cardiff, and were unsure of when we'd be able to re-book.I was told not to worry, just ring and rebook when you know the date.Admittedly, 7 weeks have now passed, but as we were heading for the area, we phoned to book, and were told that the deposit was only valid for 2 weeks, and we were told this at the time of cancelling. This is a complete lie.If that had been the case, I would have explained that it was unlikely to be for a while, due to the distance. Reluctantly, after some haggling, they agreed to roll £10 forward but forfeit £5 for the inconvenience and with only two guests attending instead of three. The excuse from their end was that times are hard with Covid. We don’t need that explained to us.Since Covid my partner’s family business has reduced dramatically (thankfully we haven’t needed to abuse customer loyalty to continue) and throughout the pandemic until today I’ve upped my hours to 50 per week.We do not need this pointed out at all. We'd rather you keep our £15, and never spend another penny with you if that's your attitude, than use the £10 and end up putting another £80+ in your till.We certainly will remember this company — for all the wrong reasons.Good luck for the future, if that's how you make your profits, you don't deserve the custom! Please remember that businesses that look after their customers are the ones that will flourish. You can have this piece of advice for free — oh no wait — I paid you £15 for it!

Now that it is my "local" I can say that the Brit is a great place for more than just a drink. I love munching some white bate with a cider by the river in the garden, and the Sunday roast was decent. The staff is usually friendly and the last dinner we had there was really great.

Lovely pub on the river. Really nice garden and friendly staff! Only stayed for one but would have had more if I wasn't driving

One of the best pubs I've ever been. Showcases local ales and other top drinks. Food is amazing here!

·

Terrible place hiring people for a job doing more than 12 hours work leading them on believing to have further employment, too then sack them unfairly & paying well under National minimum wage to adult staff! Trying to get away with paying cash in hand would mean tax evasion! No health & safely measures for employees and I'd recommendenvironment food safety checks to be made. Shocking place never go there! 👎

Awesome place! They brought the food out quite quickly and was delicious!! Pints are decently priced and asked if wanted to try the ale before I bought it! Better than spoons! Took our plate out promptly after finishing the food, whereas spoons kept us waiting, really good place if you want a good meal or pint

What an excellent meal we had for Sunday lunch today. The food was superb and the staff were second to none - so polite and very efficient. We shall surely go again - highly recommended.

Destination pub, for excellent well cooked food and good honest flavours, well worth the travel.Service great and attentive, lighting a bit too bright.Best around for miles.

First time we I arrived here we couldn't get a table as they didn't offer food to which the manager explained and apologized for. Glad me and my friend came back the décor was modern but with the 1885 feel as well. We were sat down and choose our food. I ordered the monk fish first time to try it out and was not disappointed. It was absolutely delicious was not expecting it to be and the price was very reasonable. To some it up the food was great, staff were great, everything was great. I will definitely be back here again.
