Always polite and friendly service. Food is a great standard for the price you pay and a good selection of drinks. Been going there for years and will continue to do so

Very disappointed.Had heard lots of rave reviews but unfortunately my visit won't add another.Food was cold and items mentioned on menu were missing.Bought a bottle of wine ,had to return to bar to have the cork removed, after being overlooked for obvious regulars ,was finally served only to be asked if I'd paid for said bottle - how else would I have had it???Very busy and only 2 staff - guy behind the bar and a girl run ragged serving tables, glass collecting and serving at the bar.Perhaps not the place to go for food in the evening.

A great place for a meal with friends.I had an evening meal at the Black Boy yesterday with 4 friends. COVID measures were in place, we signed in for track & trace, orders were placed from the table etc. It was quite busy but I could see where the staff had spread out the customer groups so that we weren't close to others. It would have been nice to have it more clearly explained when being seated that drinks were ordered via the online system with food orders taken by staff - there was a bit of confusion but, the few staff members we could see were clearly working flat out. The couple of staff members that we dealt with were lovely and all 5 meals were brought out quickly.Food was fantastic! I was the only veggie so ordered the vegan mushroom pasta. I'm often disappointed with the portion sizes with vegetarian options but that wasn't the case here. (see pic) I had ordered a side of chips but ended up sharing them with friends because the portion size of my meal was spot on. Everything was delicious, we all cleared our plates.Sports was being shown so that did make it a bit noisy, it didn't bother us at all (actually added to the atmosphere) but it would make me reluctant to take the kids if it was a game night.A lovely evening overall & I'll happily go back again.

A classic 'Brain's pub, with a great menu; great deals on good pub food. Plenty of space for Social Distancing at time of writing (Jan 2022), and an emphasis on keeping visitors safe. On site parking is handy too, for which you pay a small amount, which is refunded from your bill.

Food isn't bad but the donuts on the children's dessert menu were rock solid and practically inedible. We also waited ages for any kind of table service at a time where the place was fairly quiet

Went for Christmas menu , starter and dessert very good, main meal not up to standard beef was very tough and a lot of fat

Looks great now it has been freshly decorated. Nice colours and fixtures too. Very busy Saturday night in both the bar and restaurant. In fact they also had a live band though my party left before they played. Order and pay for food and drinks at the bar and service was pretty quick. I decided to try the lamb steak this time but although reasonably tasty, it was a bit chewy. And not pink as suggested. A decent local pub and restaurant and very popular.

Great staff, spotlessly clean and plenty of space inside and out. As it's a chain, the menu is restricted and predictable, but always very decent pub grub. Family friendly, dart board welcoming "regulars".

Standard brains oub when it comes to food and drink. Food is decent, menu has good choice. Beer choice not so good, but to be expected with brewery owner pub. Staff all nice and friendly, although they aren't massive fans of clearing away empty glasses from tables.
