Gourmet Cafe in Swansea

Lovely place. Had some really tasty mápó tofu. Had a good strong "numbing spice" / 麻辣 flavour. They also serve some really nice whole-leaf lóngjǐng green tea. The staff were all nice and friendly. All the dishes were amazingly good value.

Incredible Chinese food cooked by an excellent chef who is extremely proud of his craft. Sizzling black pepper beef is a staple dish at this restaurant and is a must-try. We have not had a single bad dish from here, and the food keeps exceptionally well when taken home to be eaten the next day.Many moons ago this place used to be perfect, but the increase in business means they are now quite busy most evenings. This means the customer service can be exceptionally poor. We have often had our drinks forgotten, and menus can take a long time to be despatched. Additionally, ordering can take a very long time, particularly if there are many parties or larger groups. Sometimes you might find you ordered first, but your dishes come much later than for everybody else. We've also caught the waitress cleaning her nails while we waited for our forgotten drinks once, which was a bit sad.While the customer service is a shame, I think the food is the best Chinese food I've eaten in my life. We would come here more often (or as often as we used to) but nowadays it's very cramped in there with the extra customers, and it can be a hassle waiting so long for food or service.

The treatment by the waiters has been excelente and they have also let us in for dinner just before closing. The stars that I have given them are mainly due to the food, the dishes that I ordered did not have much flavor. Of the three, I would only recommend the tofu soup. On the other hand, you can only pay in cash and we were not told before going in for dinner.

Really tasty food and great table service. Great value for money! The waitress warned us about the bones in the dish so we weren’t caught unawares. I’d definitely recommend this place.

Looking for a fantastic place to have Chinese? then this place is for you. on my recent visit to Swansea found this nice place to have dinner and to my surprise this restaurant had an amazing and authentic Chinese dishes that would please most people. Not just the vast choice but also this place is very good for your wallet. This place is a must visit for all who love their Chinese food.

This place is so good we have taken to going here almost every week. The food is on another level! It is run by such a lovely family who are very talented chefs. The service and advice we have had is second to none. Personal favourites so far... Hot and sour soup; prawns in egg yolk; Brocolli in hot and sour; spare ribs in sweet and sour and sizzling beef. But you won't be disappointed by anything you order, every dish is delicious. Amazing place with a great atmosphere and lovely staff!

Very original dishes , things which you probably never tried before : frogs 🐸, intenstines, tendons, tripes, jellyfishes... And lots more in unique culinary connections and lots of varieties.This is not just Dining Experience, but whole trip to Far, far East 🏮💖You might get some communication problems with a waitress but this might be just a different cultural behaviour and the end everything arrive as it should be.Everything is priced incredibly low 😯👏Totally top (personal favourite just after GiGi's) Chinese in City!

Whilst visiting Swansea, from London, for a couple of days in September 2021, my partner and I ended up at Gourmet Cafe after the original Chinese establishment we attempted to try was closed. We are so glad that this was the case as Gourmet Cafe proved to be a fantastic eatery which we may not have visited otherwise.As individuals who eat lots of Chinese food, we can only describe the food that we ordered as being truly tasty, full of flavour and delicious. The food was piping hot and very obviously freshly made. The portion sizes were huge for every dish we ordered - leaving huge smiles on our faces and stuffed bellies!!! Best of all the cost was truly excellent value. Our experience of the food in Gourmet Cafe is without question a hard act to follow. In fact we were so impressed, we went back the following night. If our tummies had allowed it we would have also gone back for a daytime meal before we left.In addition to the phenomenal food, everything from the calm efficient friendly service to the very clean restaurant made the whole experience, a thoroughly enjoyable one.We will definitely come back to Gourmet Cafe when we visit Swansea again.

Best Chinese food I have had in Swansea yet! As an Asian, the food here is legit. The setup is small so seats are limited. When we were there, they were so swamped they couldn’t provide us with soup bowl coz’ they can’t wash fast enough!! Also they only take cash. Then again, we are so used to such stuff in Asia, we don’t really bother so long as the food is good. The stir fried chili prawns can with a real bite and was very fragrant. The sizzling beef was smoking and straight off the stove. Dive into it fast before the beef gets stuck to the bottom of the hot plate. The Kongpo chicken was a little weak. Will definitely come back again to try other dishes.
