Visited with my partner a few weeks ago. The food was nice but in our opinion over priced for what is was. For starters I ordered the breaded wings which were frozen cheapy wings at £8 a portion. I had a t bone steak which cost £36 and it came with average frozen chips, not even home made fresh cut or triple cooked like other places which charge similar prices. Steaks don't come with sauces, they're sold separately.Altogether we had 2 starters, 2 steak meals, 2 sauces and we drank water £90.My partner left a honest review a few weeks back which they then called her out on after leaving the review. Very unprofessional. If you can't handle honest reviews don't give customers the opportunity to do so.It's a 3 from us and we'll stick to Miller and Carter!

Just had a family Sunday lunch here..cannot fault the quality of the food and the fantastic staffWe've not been for a while and we were very impressed. These people who complain about the Gate are damaging a perfectly good restaurant and business.times have been difficult and it's so pleasing to see The Gate being back to where it was pre COVID. It's still the best restaurant around without doubt.

After a feast of meat at Xmas what better way to kick start the New Year than with a Baked Dover Sole at The Gate with green beans and dauphinoise potatoes with a small pot of Tartare Sauce. The fish was cooked to perfection , so succulent and fell of the bone easily enabling you to easily digest the white fish. The Bread Board contained warm bread that smelled and tasted as if a Bakery was operating next to the Kitchen as it was that fresh.A delicious light dish accompanied by a large glass of crisp Chardonnay a perfect match for a very enjoyable evening. If you want cheering up after the tales of woe emanating from 24/7 news of doom and gloom re pandemic , our politicians behaving like children and Mr Putin threatening World Peace in view of the possibility of Russia invading Ukraine then go to The Gate where you will receive quality cooking at very reasonable prices. Recommended.

Went here for the 1st time as a group of 4 for Sunday lunch. Straight forward and simple choices on the menu. 2 of us had the trio of meats, 1 had beef and 1 had lamb. It was awesome, very flavoursome, the plates were large and full to the edges. We understood why there was no starters on offer. The puddings were also very good all at £6 each although it would have been nice to see some traditional puddings on the menu. Good value for money in our opinion and we plan to return soon. Service was very good.

We had a wonderful evening at the gate this evening. The staff were lovely and the food was outstanding.

·

A bit more expensive than your average pub, but the food was lovely, the plates were eye-catching and the portion sizes were very generous.

"The food and the service are second to none. We had an excellent night and an outstanding experience from start to finish. It even has an adjacent Delli counter where you can buy items from the restaurant to take away. The only disappointment 😞 on our visit was the noise from larger groups seated all together. We found ourselves hearing thier conversation above our own. That's the only reason we ave dropped a star in our ratings. This place is a must for a great night out ❤. Xx

Fantastic quality food , very generous portions , quiet and intimate setting, if I was looking for a negative I could only say it was maybe a bit too intimate for my liking .. Prices are fair for the quality of food .. Best fillet steak I've had 👌🏼😊

Visited with my cousin from Newport for the first time yesterday.Very welcomed by the staff especially Maddie. The displays of meat are impressive as is the menu.We settled on the daily 3 course meal. I had antipasti starter which was amazing, grilled lamb steak and ice-cream sundae. As you leave it is via the shop which has all the same meat and fish as restaurant. Carpark was nearly full when we arrived for 1.30pm
