The Wheatsheaf - Combe Hay in Bath and North East Somerset

Had lunch 15th April with a friend, for a treat as i had recommended the food and the setting. Over 30 yrs i have always had excellent service and food here. Sadly not yesterday. We were asked what we'd like to drink without having been given a drinks menu, i had to ask for it. I had the crab burger. It was not a burger it was a miniscule amount of crab in a horrible soggy batter in a bun, which was tasteless! I scrapped what little crab there was out of the batter. My friend had the chickpea burger which was not good either, she left 3/4 of what had been served! When the waiter cleared our plates he did not ask if everything was alright, which it obviously wasn't. When paying he didn't ask if we enjoyed our meals. I am bitterly disappointed as I was going to treat a friend to lunch here. Also, i was thinking it would be a great place to celebrate my 60th birthday with a family group. I don't think I will ever eat here again! I will be warning my friends not to waste their money eating here either. What has happened to what was a gastro pub that served great food and provided excellent customer service????

The sample menu online promised a good meal, but sadly not the case, we visited as a party of six on a Saturday night the pub was quite quiet which is always a sign of the place losing it's appeal, we ate here probably 8 years ago and wow it was something special but now sadly very over priced for an ordinary sad menu not executed particularly well...very disappointing, just very basic and the chef felt it was ok to send split, curdled custard out with our dessert? Sad to see this place lose its standards but still charge premium prices, ok for a drink but better food at better prices can be found locally, just go into Bath!

Returning back for second time and it doesn't disspoint. The gastro pub is at its highest level of service and food, the garden is peaceful with great views and lots of sun. Will be back again and again and again...

Fantastic country pub with great views outside and an inside full of friendly spaniels. Excellent food, if a bit on the pricey side.

Absolutely great, superb breakfast, comfiest beds ever could have stayed in bed all day. Staff friendly and v helpful.

Lovely Cozy pub with log fire and squishy sofas. Dog friendly with very tasty & well above average pub food. We are considering booking a little stay here as the converted outbuildings look good.

Amazing! A fantastic country pub - ideal destination for a walk. Great food and drink…. Covered and heated terrace…large garden…. Lots of seats…what’s not to like!

Had a delicious meal here, chips were delicious - burger was slightly overdone and charred but all in all a good meal. Beautiful setting and pub.One thing I really wanted to mention was the pub dog. Gorgeous dog and friendly, however, the WHOLE time we were eating both the starters and mains, the dog sat staring at us, sometime crying at us and putting it's head on my knee to feed it. It was very off-putting and annoying!

We had a great stay here. The accommodation was comfortable and clean (as well as being cleaned during our stay which we hadn’t expected). We ate in the restaurant on the first night, and the food was good, particularly the sea bass and pork belly mains. Breakfast the next day was excellent, with a good range of options and good quality produce.Our only complaint was that the curtains were quite thin on our ground level accommodation. We tested it and you couldn’t really see in from outside, but it still felt as though people might be able to see in.But that’s a fairly small thing. Overall we had a lovely stay.

A first class Sunday lunch.Just took my family and in-laws. The service was really good from young friendly staff, they were working hard and super nice.The food was genuinely excellent. I had a smoked haddock risotto to start which I thought was a bit of a risk in a ‘pub’ but was delighted, absolutely delicious. As was the roast beef, partridge, fish pie etc. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed the meal.Well done landlord and team. We will be back. Bravo.
