The Happy Diner is a favourite Chinese restaurant of mine which is one of the better places in Bournemouth for the UK style Chinese food you would expect to find in London's China Town.It is a small and simple restaurant with no frills. You would not call this fancy or up market. However, it is not shabby, the furniture, serving plates and cutlery are all of a good standard. It is an honest Chinese eatery, comfortable and relaxed. The staff are enthusiastic, well mannered and polite. The standard of the food is above average and the reason I choose this restaurant over all other Chinese in Bournemouth and Poole. You will always see diners of Chinese origin here, a good sign that you are in the right place. Dim sum is served on weekend mornings, the restaurant is open for lunch and the takeaway menu is priced a couple of pounds cheaper than the eat in menu.If you want good Chinese food at normal prices then The Happy Diner is the only real option in the area. Enjoy your meal!

Have been eating at this place for years and it's consistently excellent. They offer much more than your average Chinese restaurant, with a very extensive menu and a good selection of Dim Sum. Excellent value too. 10/10.

Visiting Bournemouth and was happy to find the Happy Diner. Being from New York, some of the dishes brought me back to Flushing Queens. Their beef stew ho fun was meaty and the broth was scrumptious. We ordered some dimsum dishes and my partner had the roast pork chow mein. We both highly recommend their custard buns and rice parcels. They also supply a yummy chili oil that goes with everything. Highly recommend checking this place out!

Given the place a go as a takeaway twice now. First time they gave me beef chow mein instead of roast pork... I don't eat beef so that was a fail... tonight the food was bland and all the meat was rubbery and over cooked. The restaurant was empty on Friday night at 9pm ...tells you all you need to know. Avoid

Brilliant little Chinese restaurant / takeaway!!The name has changed to 'Happy Diner' now. This place does except over the phone orders and delivers as well. The food is excellent for the price and the interior is clean and nice!!Would definitely recommend!

We had the vegetable noodle soup, absolutely fantastic, decent portion sizes, friendly staff and definitely on the list of places we recommend to someone looking for relatively authentic Chinese food in this town.

Went there with 2 of my friends. Food was very delicious and potions were good. They were closing at 10 pm so had to hurry up. But food was worth the price. The owner was very helpful and had good knowledge of food. .. will definitely go there if we visit bournemouth again

The worse "special" fried rice I've ever eaten: 3-4 small prawns, a few small pieces of chicken, a couple of tiny pieces of roast pork, some traces of eggs... The taste was bland and the rice was very dry and had a strong burnt taste . I had to throw half of the rice away and I hate wasting food ! As it was a take away, I asked for some chilli oil but was told that it was £1 to take away. I said that I just wanted to put a little bit on the rice but was told again that it would be £1! What a rip off! People eating inside the restaurant also have to pay for the chilli?? Unfortunately , I only discovered how awful the " special" fried rice was when I got back to my hotel otherwise I would have returned it ! If they can't even do something simple as a fried rice I wonder how the rest of the menu tastes like ! No recommended at all..

Don't bother if you're coming for dim sum because they don't serve it after 8PM. You might be confused by the menu in the window saying it's served until 8:30, but that's just because they serve it for takeaway until then. Otherwise it's just another crummy badly furnished Chinese in a town with too many already - save your time and go to one of the many other decent restaurants in the area which isn't empty on a Friday night.
