We had a great dinner at Sambal Tumis, which, to our Singaporean palates, was reflective of fairly authentic Malaysian food.We particularly enjoyed the Tauhu Goreng and Ayam Paprik, which we found to have very well-balanced flavours. The Ayam Paprik was especially nice, with delicious notes of lime, lemongrass, and fish sauce, all of which paired well with plain jasmine rice. The Char kway teow also deserves special mention - it hit the right notes with the right amounts of sweetness, saltiness, and spiciness. However, it lacked a 'wok hei' that would have elevated the dish just that bit more from merely good to one that was excellent. The two dishes that disappointed somewhat were the (1) Ayam Pandan, and (2) butter curry chicken. The Ayam Pandan was overcooked, resulting in somewhat dry and tough chicken. The butter curry chicken was bland, and was essentially a puzzling concoction that (probably?) aimed to be like the Indian 'Butter Chicken', but which fell significantly short - it was neither salty nor sweet nor robust enough. I found it to ultimately be a watery mess of a curry. I also disliked the use of chicken breast - thigh meat would have been juicier and more flavoursome. Finally, we found service good, and the food to be value for money. Portions were very decent, prices were most reasonable, and service staff were prompt and efficient. This was a 4 star meal in sum; One star docked for the disappointing butter curry chicken and ayam Pandan.

Wonderful find whilst on our South Coast roadtrip. Cedic was waiting and Sheena was outside serving some wonderful food. No drinks licence but BYO. The mango kerabu salad was sharp , salty and sour just missing the crunch of the crushed peanuts.the chicken in pandan was moist tasty thigh chicken. Beef rending slow cooked beef chunks. Could imagine beef cheek working well in rendang. Very tasty is the aubergine brinjal soft and smokey. Roti telur as well to share, over excited wanting to try everything. No room for dessert but took a toasted coconut ice cream back. Highly recommended for authentic homecooked food

The food at Sambal Tumis is amazing. There aren't many Malaysian restaurants in the area (that I know of) and this one just ticks all the boxes. Everything I have ordered so far has been delicious. Very tasty and aromatic, and truly authentic. It truly stands out. The staff are also very friendly and attentive. It's a pleasure to eat here. Will definitely be coming again!

Fantastic food and service. We tried 10 different dishes and were impressed with all of them. The various flavours were fabulous. I can't wait to go back to what is now my favourite restaurant 8n Bournemouth.

Amazing family run restaurant with great hospitality, food and drinks. They are always happy to adapt meals to suit fussy diners (toddlers). It's nice to eat somewhere that welcomes small children instead of treating them like a nuisance. We can't wait to visit again 🙂

Fantastic Food. The owner could not do enough, a really lovely friendly guy. Made to feel very welcome. Does not sell alcohol, but able to pop next door for a bottle of wine. Glasses supplied no corkage charge. Highly recommended.

Absolutely loved the food at this place! So authentic and probably one of the best nasi goreng I’ve had! Definitely looking forward to visiting again! Visited all the way from Southampton and definitely did not disappoint. Amazing portions for the price!

Visited this place based on a recommendation from a Malaysian FB group. The menu had a good selection of Malaysian dishes on it. Wanted to order so many things but we resisted and got a couple of dishes. Definitely order the nasi lemak if you want to try a traditional Malaysian dish. The roti canai was flaky and tasty. Even took some sweets home. Definitely going back on our next visit to Bournemouth.

As a fellow Malaysian, I felt right at home here! I haven't been home for more than a year due to Covid and I was in Bournemouth for the bank holiday weekend and found this absolute gem! Was so happy to have a taste of home! Hubby had the ayam masak kicap (chicken in a dark sauce), I had the nasi goreng (fried rice) the telur dadar (omelette) we shared was lovely too. I also loved that they had my fave drink 100 Plus, I know its technically an energy drink but its my fave beverage ❤️. So happy when I saw ABC on the menu! Shaved ice with various toppings 😍. I wholly recommend it to those who want to try something different and have a taste of Malaysia since we can't currently visit it. Very friendly staff 😊
