1 of the few fish and chip shops which opens on a Sunday! We wanted takeaway but not a massive or 2 pricey 1 so opted 4 the kids meal deal we got 3 decent size cod fish bites with generous amount of chips only ÂŁ4,50 which inc a small drink! Def good value for money & a young child wouldn't b able 2 eat that much, great for oap or smaller appetite!

Great fish and chips. Everything cooked to order. Phone ahead and pay on arrival to get best service as can be long queues.

·

Amazing fish and chips All the staff are so friendly. Also served with a smile. Thank you for Smithson’s

Great fish and chips. A generous portion of fish with a crispy batter. The chips were really nice and there were lots of them. OAP meals on Monday only, and they only accept cash, so go prepared.

·

Food still good but ignore the prices on the menu on their website, prices have increased ENORMOUSLY. An occasional smile from the staff would help, not a happy crew.

Had fish & chips from here several times & it's usually ok, but this time it was very disappointing, the food was not that hot & the chips were awful. I have never seen any member of staff smile when I'm there & there's never any 'hello' or goodbye. I definitely will not be getting fish & chips from here again because of what I've mentioned above, but mostly because they have increased their prices by a ridiculous amount, I know costs are on the increase but charging an extra ÂŁ1.50 per portion of fish is unacceptable, and I can get better quality & cheaper In a cafe!!

Good fish and chips but had better. What I can't believe is the exception high price. So won't return not because of quality, but I'm not prepared to pay their prices

·

Great find! Good-sized portions, skinned cod cooked beautifully and tasty! Had to wait as very busy and popular but staff worked quickly to serve. Pricy but good quality - cash only - will return!

·

Pleasantly surprised by the portion size and quality. I order the regular cod and chips with a pea fritter. The pea fritter was terrible but both cod and chips were really good, fresh crispy and not too greasey.

Spent ages trying to find a chippie that sold Skate/Skate Wings for my Dad who loves it.Found Smithsons via a Google review from back in 2016 as they don't have a website.Gave them a call and they answered immediately and confirmed that they still sold Skate which was an answer to pray. They do take phone orders for collection but we chose to order in person. Covid adherence was very good and the wait time, considering the Skate Wings were cooked to order, was very short.Portions are more than enough and the quality is amazing.Highly recommemd this place to any officianados of the great British chippie.Menu is correct at time of review as collected when we ate there on Friday 20th November 2020.
