Certainly not the best curry I have experienced. Slightly over done with the chili and not the most flavoursome sauce. We had a large group of 15 which even though we were sat on two large tables they split the orders and timing. It toon between 1 1/2 to 2 hours for all of us to have our food. A very long time. I don't think they can cope with larger groups. We had some poppadoms starterS with the usual dips. All good except the mango chutney. It was runny as if it had been watered down. The mains were OK but I have much better curries from other restaurants.Staff were friendly and were working hard but communication on the waiting times were not great.Overall it was an OK experience, I don't think I would go back personally. Maybe it was the curry I chose that night and being a large group that didn't help.

Prompted to write this review as had such a marvellous evening the first time during a London to Bristol visit to see my daughter in first term that I’ve just booked in again for Friday.Gosh I really wish we could find a restaurant this good realistically close enough to relish every week in South West London.Lovely cosy booths, kind & friendly, warm staff, but most importantly delicious food; you can taste the love and attention to detail in these dishes.I so wish there were more curry houses left like this. Please please carry on as you are Raj, we will be eating with you at every opportunity; sad we live so far away..See you Friday! Can’t wait!XXXX

Good food and friendly owner. I liked the garlic grilled chicken as a starter. Mains with a sort of chicken biryani and lamb curry dishes were good although a bit flat taste wise. I would still go back again 👍🙂

Close to the best Indian food I’ve ever had! As an Australian who has had my fair share of Indian food in both Australia and India, the Raj was a top contender. Four of us were well fed for around £15 each from the early bird menu. Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the chicken tikka masala and the jalfrezi. The staff were friendly and accommodating and slipped us a couple of extra chocolates after the meal. We were only in Bristol for 2 days and we were very pleased the Raj was included in our short visit.

Lovely food, but ordered more than we could eat! Really tasty samosas and the Biryani was a generous portion. Friendly staff as well, all served in an authentic Indian restaurant.

Great indian restaurant with very friendly staff. Chicken Dhansak was amazing as was the chicken tikka starter. All food was delicious. would definitely recommend and will be back again.

·

Extensive vegan menu with a variety of fake meat options and almost every item available as vegan version. Very accommodating staff, we arrived very late and had no time before the theatre and they advised what would be able to very quickly and ensured it got there on time. Delicious

Although the food was good and the staff were friendly we waited over 2 hours for our food. When we asked why it was taking so long they blamed it on the people in out party ordering vegan options. To make it worse when the food did arrive some items were missing. It was a shame because the food was good when it for finally arrived.

Anyone that gives this place a bad review is a liar. The oldest curry house in Bristol city centre deserves some respect! Great atmosphere and the servers went out of their way to ensure we had a memorable time. Fantastic food and great menu for those looking to expand their palette. Definitely now our favourite spot for Indian. Thanks guys for your hospitality!

Really lovely restaurant, all the staff were so welcoming and the service was excellent. We were seated immediately and the food came very quickly and was top notch! Would definitely visit again. Also very handy being right next to the theatre and opening late.
