This busy little pub with wood-panelling and stripped-wood floor serves real ales and local ciders.

I visited last week, which happened to be International Women's Day and witnessed a customer "correct" their IWD celebration message on the chalk board above the bar to remove the "wo" from "women". There was no resistance from staff who if anything encouraged the change. It's really disappointing to see this kind of thing going on in public spaces. Made worse for being in a pub when you consider the context of misogyny and mistreatment of women in the beer industry of late. These actions whilst small, made the whole pub feel very unwelcoming (particularly for women) so I'd keep walking past if you want a nice place to enjoy a pint!

Super pub. Good food. Nice ales. Felt local and friendly.

Booked a roast dinner at the bank tavern almost 2 years ago and finally got to try the famous roast dinner out and it didn’t disappoint. The pub itself is tucked away and if you haven’t been before is easy to miss. Inside is a nice mix of new and old and the pub itself is very small and probably explains why the waiting list is so long! The starter I went with was the ham hock and it was great! For main I went with roast beef and it’s possibly the best roast beef I’ve had. It’s soft and tender and just melts in the mouth! Roast potatoes were nice and crispy also. My only complaint with my main course was I only had 2 pieces of beef, where as most other places I’ve had a roast offer 3. And for dessert I went with a white chocolate crème brûlée which again was one of the best I’ve had. All this for £19.95 is outstanding value and will be hard to beat at that price. The staff were friendly and helpful and made sure everything was okay with our food.

One of the best roasts in Bristol. Can’t fault any of it. Freshly prepared, tasty, great value for money and awesome customer service. Deserves its reputation

Popped in a bit mob handed with 6 of us in this small little hideaway. Couldn't fault the place, food or service, an easy 5/5. Small menu but plenty of choice and decent selection on the bar. Dog friendly too.

Food is exquisitely delicious 👌🏻 finest dining you will ever find in a pub & staff are amazing too! What more can you ask for! Thank you for a wonderful experience xxx

Edit: As readers will see, the response from the landlord is laced with sarcasm. The fact is he was unavailable by phone day or night after several attempts, and made no effort to contact me prior to cancelling my booking. He says the business was closed, but it was open when I called and spoke to bar staff and the landlord was able to cancel my 2023 booking. The very polite bar person I spoke to advised me to call back in the day time without specifying when but timing isn't the issue and neither the bar person or myself are accountable for the unavailability and lack of accountability by the management. The landlord has also managed to respond to this review in a matter of hours, as opposed to days for emails. He says normally he'd have tried to make amends, but the fact is he had that opportunity when I asked why my booking had been cancelled in my initial email, and he chose not to. The best this landlord has been able to offer is a personal attack. The landlord is the problem here, not the staff, and not me. Finally, "360 days to find a Toby Carvery". Not just sarcastic but stuck up and classist too.Sam. Treat people with respect and hopefully they will do the same for you. The respectful thing to do here was to contact your customers with bookings before cancelling them, not just send an automated email with no explanation after the fact.Cancelled my reservation after 15 months of waiting, and the waiting list for a Sunday roast is now several years - so long that there are no available Sunday reservations. They didn't bother to contact me to explain or offer another day, I just got an automated email from their booking system.Emails to the landlord take several days to get a response and he has also not been reachable by phone. The only response from the landlord has been to say that they've decided not to be open Sunday January 1st 2023, but if they're going to take reservations so far ahead they should honour them, and simply block out days on the system for future bookings that they won't be open for.Their website says they are uniquely inhospitable. I agree with that assessment.

Waited 2 years for this one. Was well worth wait. Great food complimented by friendly happy staff.

Good roast in a quiet hidden away location. The food was nice, tasty but I think the winner here is the price. 3 courses for £17.95.. Can't go wrong. The only downside was the dessert, just wasn't a fan of the rice pudding.

A truly exquisite Sunday roast. Was it worth the hype and the wait? YES!!! Already can't wait for a chance to go back again.
