The Channings Hotel Restaurant in Bristol

Ill start with the positives. Nice location and lovely beer garden. Staff friendly and helpful.Now the reason i gave a 1 star. The food is awful. I opted for a sirloin steak and double upped. My father went for a rump steak toasted sandwich. The rump steak sandwich was quite good but the sirloin steak was awful. The steak was soggy and tasteless. Very tellingly there was no smell of steaks or any other meat being cooked despite it apparently being "from the grill". Its ashsme as this pub is in a great location and has the potential to do a lot better.

This delightful pub has a wonderful atmosphere, lovely garden and fantastic staff. Throughout the pandemic they went to great lengths to keep their customers safe. I had lunch here with my friend yesterday and the food was fine. Premises were clean and service was impeccable. I highly recommend this venue, both for casual meet ups and celebratory gatherings.

Loved this place! This place has become my favorite in just one visit. The indoor and out spaces were just so cozy. Also, I liked the ciders on the tap.

The bar area is quite nicely decorated, feels like a genuinely nice place to hang out with friends. Small range of ales with other beer & cider on tap, plus fridges of bottles & various spirits. Good value offers during the week, including pub classics & steak night. We had a room at the top of the hotel; clean & okay but in need of renovation. Close to posts of Bristol we wanted to visit, so fine for the price. No long parking nearby, so try YourParkingSpace & other 24hr places if not traveling by public transport.

The hotel was decent, great for the price. The food however was basic. Great for stay, but not so great for dinner. Bar staff were super lovely though!

I live nearby and go to the restaurant all the time. Great welcoming staff and always very attentive. Good selection of beer and wine. Big garden for shiny days. Family friendly and a dog friendly place. It is my favourite garden in the area. The restaurant has a really nice atmosphere inside and is a nice place to have brunch and coffee on Saturday morning or cocktails in the evening.

Spent Christmas at Channings with my partner. Amazing atmosphere, lovely staff who really made our Christmas something special. Will definitely be returning next year and booking a room in the hotel too. Shout out to the team that really worked hard to make Christmas the best we’ve had, Amy, Cale, Sara and Taylor. Staff - Excellent. Speed of service - Excellent. Quality of food - Chicken Tikka was really good, the naan bread was a bit poor. It had really hard bits which, although not inedible, were difficult to chew. Not like the normal 'take away' naan bread. The mixed grill was also very good and, although all well cooked, the steak was poor quality (not the fault of the chefs). The inside seating was spacious and didn't feel crowded. We will go again as, although it wasn't perfect, was still a very positive experience.

On a crowded summer Clifton Sunday, we searched in vain for a place to enjoy an outdoor beer and were thrilled to stumble upon the Channings. Staff were friendly and welcoming and we enjoyed our pints in their large, smart, family-friendly garden. Less crowded and much quieter than many of the places in the middle of town - we'll be back.

Delicious food , good friendly welcoming staff and overall good vibes. They provide good discounts for all NHS staff. Would totally recommend you to book a table and try the mango chilli chicken strips!!
