I'd like to mention the service that was great, thank you Stelios. Piano player excellent, it was a Friday evening. Great view on the docks. We had expected more from the food in all fairness hence the 4 stars.

Picked this place on a whim as we were staying in Backwell just outside of Bristol and we were struggling to find somewhere to eat that had a romantic vibe to it.This place was perfect. The service was great, the piano was a nice touch and the food was good quality. The menu didn't "wow" me but the what we had tasted lovely and we'd certainly go back.

Picked this place last minute because we fancied a good steak and was not disappointed! Beautiful view over the river, great food and service and not over priced.Thre was a small bar above the restaurant that gave an almost 'private' feel that looked great but unfortunately we didn't have time to stay, still it's a nice establishment throughout (shirt and shoes I would encourage, but no dress code as such) and I would definitely go back next time I'm in Bristol.

Hands down the best dining experience me and my wife have ever had.If you come here , ask for Jan and Victor, the friendliest staff who will make your night amazing. Lots of laughter and great charm. We came here for our honeymoon and they went above and beyond, giving us complimentary drinks and beautifully presented cakes. The food is incredible and locally sourced. The food is great too.

Visited for afternoon tea; The River Grille has a small selection of teas, I had the breakfast blend (odd for an afternoon tea but perfectly serviceable) and my wife had an Earl Grey (Clipper brand). Food arrived and the usual selection of finger sandwiches (cucumber and cream cheese on white, ham and mustard on wholemeal, egg mayo on white and an open smoked salmon on rye) was accompanied by a plate of scones (plain and fruit) with generous amounts of clotted cream and jam, and a plate of small cakes. The sandwiches were delicious and we requested a couple of extra plates of those. Scones were light with plenty of fruit in the fruit one. Small cakes were a little disappointing, quite sharp sweetness with limited, one-dimensional flavours. The service was very good, we were well attended and all of our requests were dutifully obliged. This would have been a 4-star experience but for the bill. The afternoon tea is billed at £20 per person which we thought was well priced, except we were charged for the extra plates of sandwiches and a 10% service charge so it ended up costing £60.50 for two people. Whilst an "optional" service charge is customary and mentioned in the small print on the menu (although why the food can't just be more expensive and the staff paid a living wage eludes me) the extra charge for additional plates is not. I've never come across an afternoon tea that does this and it seems strange to break with this fundamental understanding and not mention it anywhere. Why not just charge £30 and not include the extra charges?

Great place. The staff were so lovely. The Sunday lunch was very nice but the root vegetables were hard. I do like them crunchy but the parsnips could have done with a few more minutes. This is not a complaint merely a suggestion. I will return as it was a very pleasant experience.

Really nice food! Asked them to make a desert that said happy birthday for my partner and they went the extra mile. Thank you !

First visit here and was blown away! Amazing food, friendly staff and very lovely ambience! Best time to visit is in the evening just before the sun sets. Was really pleased with the waiter’s recommendation on the mains: rib eye steak in medium rare and the seafood skillet. Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for an ambient experience with good food!

I have to commend The River Grille for catering to our group of eight. I had booked the afternoon tea as part of a hen party; we had vegan and gluten-free requirements which I was worried would be missed. Luckily it wasn't and the service was impeccable. Our water/tea was regularly topped up.Onto the food, I am no stranger to this British pasttime. At £15pp (promotion), I thought the quality was very reasonable. Smoked salmon was fresh, the desserts were decent and the scones didn't miss. The piano in the background sets off the lovely atmosphere and a view of the harbourside whilst dining finished off this wonderful experience.

Overall we had a wonderful experience and we don’t really have any complaints, just if our table was ready for us when we arrived, that’s all. Food was wonderful, as was the service and the happy anniversary mini dessert plate was a fabulous touch, thank you so much! The drinks were lovely as well. Calm and relaxed vibe with live music. We had a lovely evening.
