Bar & Wok in Cheltenham

Disappointed. I've waited a few years to come here as its a 50 mile round trip from home and the Chinese places near me are hopeless. Apart from getting my order wrong which I forgave, the 288 platter and fish platter were not great. The ribs were tough, the satay chicken dry, the fried items were either soggy or burnt, we as a family of 4 were saddened after walking past several more temping food offerings in Cheltenham.Unfortunately our mains didn't fare much better. The sweet sour was not great, the lemon chicken tasted artificial. The rice was stodgy. Overall the meal was bland and uninspiring. This is very much catering for a non Asian taste which is not what I want from a meal that all said and done was £80 for 2 adults and 2 small kids.The only saving grace were the 2 kind and friendly ladies running the front of house. Not sure how 4.6 rating and awarded cheap eats 2019 came about, definitely not our experience. Far below my expectations and we were as I said, disappointed.

288 bar & Wok has been a family favourite of ours since it opened and my kids are in their early twenties now! The food is consistently good, exceptional value, locally sourced wherever possible and served with care and attention. We visit regularly for family meals, birthday celebrations, work get togethers and girls' nights out. Singapore noodles and garlic pepper king prawns are two of our 'go to' dishes. There is a reason why this welcoming restaurant won a national Observer Food Magazine award.

Relaxed atmosphere and good food. The ordering process has changed because of COVID: the menu is on the website and then you need to tell the staff what you would like. Sadly there are no desserts available for the time being.

Nothing we ordered disappointed - my black bean tofu was excellent. Good service. Functional decor is okay. Will definitely return due to the food quality.

It was our first family lunch at any restaurant since thecovid pandemic began and Bar & Wokdidn't disappoint.The very lovely, friendly staff membersmade the kids feel so welcomed. The kidsthoroughly enjoyed the experience.As it was our Anniversary, we also gotcomplimentary drinks on the house.Thanks guys!

Had always wanted to try this place and finally got the chance to, was not disappointed! Food was amazing, some of the best I've ever had! The staff were friendly and the prices were reasonable! Will definitely be going here more!

Hit and Miss at Bar and wok, the food is brilliant when it is right.More than one occasion had the wrong food order and only found out once getting it home. Not to mention the experience when eating in and they gave a vegetarian member of the party a meat dish, they did make up for this and it is a easy to mistake to make when things are busy (it was race day).Duck very fresh good portion.

Amazing food at great value prices and fantastic service as always. Been here multiple times over the last 13+ years and never had a bad experience. Can't recommend highly enough.

What a brilliant meal! The covid setup was fantastic and well thought through. Table service, with a digital menu (download their app, but order in person). The servers stay behind the white line and put all your food in that designated space too - a superb idea! The highchair fits over the benches too, which made this even more practical for our toddler, as he could sit between us, rather than at the end of a table. The food was impeccable! The peking duck was scrumptious. The food came out quickly and the service was excellent. They are participating in the eat out scheme too, so even more worthwhile at the moment. Thank you very much for an amazing evening and well done!

Best non-fine dining Chinese restaurant in UK I reckon. All dishes are so delicious, all starters and main dishes. Starters are really delicious only hope the portion slightly bigger given the price. Main dishes are lovely, especially the tofu was the best ever we had. They do take away too. Will definitely come back.
