The Ox Cheltenham in Cheltenham

Went for dinner here last night, the restaurant was quite quiet. The restaurant is looking tired now & the rustic look is starting to look worn.The cocktails were terrible- we tried two. Both were flat tasteless and seemed as if they hadn’t been made properly. I can’t stress how tasteless and flat they were- £10 or £11 each.The meat platter for two to share was good but did not come with enough bread to eat all the pate so we asked for a couple more bits of bread- that was added to the bill £5.50 for four bits of plain bread.The Hake was a good dish but very expensive for what it was & note that no sides of any kind come with the mains these are all extras. The skin on fries had no skin on them- we asked if they had made a mistake but were told no- very strange.I had a sirloin steak for £36, it was terrible. It was hard to cut and tasteless. I ordered mushrooms with this and they had been smoked (I think) and tasted terrible.We were asked about our cocktails and we gave our feedback but were never asked how the food was. The servers were pleasant & friendly.The price for two with two cocktails & a bottle of wine was nearly £160 very very overpriced & would not recommend. Needs to change a lot before we would consider returning.

First class meal on Saturday. Sharing charcuterie board, sharing steak and ice cream nice beer and wine. A real nice evening out with delicious steak cooked to our liking in a real unpretentious restaurant

I picked this place over all others for my steak experience. Having read the menu, it was Chateaubriand for me. WOW!!! what an amazing cut of meat, cooked to perfection and exactly what I wanted. Amazing staff and service. Special mention to member of staff who came out to check on me. Very much appreciated sir.

Atmosphere is great, dark walls and furniture, mood lighting, interesting pictures on the walls. Really nice food. Steak was lovely and tender. Nice, attentive staff.

I would say the food was very nice, but average. Nothing was spectacular. The hickory ribs were the most delicious. Chicken wings were not good and burgers were very nice, but ive had much better. Service was brilliant. Overall its a trendy place to be masquerading as a foodie experience...

Delightful food, friendly staff and atmospheric surroundings (perhaps a little too dark for us oldies!). We had the sharing platter followed by duck and ribeye steak. Exceptionally good but quite pricey.

Superb service, divine steak. Mixed bag on the sides: mac 'n' cheese and greens were beautifully done, but the big chips were disappointing (had that stale potato flavour, which is distinctly different from "triple cooked" flavour) and gem salad was too fishy for me.I would absolutely go back for that steak, so juicy and full of flavour!

The Ox has a nice decoration and cosy atmosphere. For dinner I had steak (6oz D Rump), chimichurri sauces and skin on fries.The taste of the steak was amazing. I strongly recommend this place.

Absolutely loved this place could possibly be the best chateaubriand we have ever eaten perfect Mac & cheese side aswell will 1000% be return next time I’m in Cheltenham ❤️ great service with very friendly staff and the dog was welcome on the terrace highly recommended 🥩

We went as a party of 6 and we all thoroughly enjoying ourselves and the food. All staff were friendly and helpful, a good blend of attentiveness and leaving us to it. The cocktails to start were lovely, charcuterie board delicious, and the sharing rib my partner and I had was cooked to perfection. My mum doesn't eat steak and she said thr scallops to start followed by the plaice were great. We couldn't finish it all so the staff kindly boxed up a bit of left over steak which our 2 dogs also highly approved of. Looking forward to going back soon
