We ate there 3 times in a week whilst on holiday as the fish was absolutely gorgeous. The chips were nice too. The scallops were pretty awful and chewy. The mushy pea fritter was dry in the middle and dripping in grease. I couldn't fault the fish though and the batter was light and crispy too. The staff were very friendly and worked well during the busy period.

We normally rock Francines for fish and chips but as they have stopped delivering we tried Holmbush for the first time in a while as its a close walk when we couldn't drive after a drink. Ordering online was quick and easy but it seemed a bit chaotic when we got there, all our order was wrapped up but then left out of heat for a bit as clearly the Jalapeño peppers hadn't started cooking so everything was not hot when we got back home, all a bit disjointed. The cod was alright, chips felt small and bitty and everything else was ok but not hot at all and the peppers weren't cooked probably in the rush to get them out. Other people were moaning about food sitting in wrap in the shop and not being hot.First and last time in a while and wouldn't rush back anytime soon, definitely not the same quality/service/food heat as other chippies around. We were promised a call back from a manager the day after about the peppers that weren't cooked and the food not being hot but heard nothing, really poor non existent service.

Normall drive the distance for quality not again. personally I hate leaving average / low reviews, but I have no choice. A new girl on front till dishing food or what seemed her first shift as she didn’t know what to do really. It isn’t her fault to start, I Presume she didn’t have the sufficient training or guidance. So please hold your head up and keep it up and blame your employer/employees. I’ve never had such small portions from yourselves (Holmbush) it’s not the lady who was nervous and unsure of serving thats at fault she was very polite although nervous. I got 1/4 of a pot of curry sauce. Not great. Usually 2x sauce will sort a family of 4, it would have sorted just me on this occasion None the less we went to our local fish and chips and got two more pots to sort the family out. An extra expense on our usual meal, we also added some chips & popped yours in the bin I’m afraid with the fish 😞 they were so dry and over cooked, dead cold and just not pleasant at all. Such a shame. Usually decent but left Disappointed and out of pocket on two take take aways this eve and the majority of the fish and chips in the bin was a shame.

Always use Holmbush and always found it very nice fish always cooked the way I like it. But today it was almost inedible as it was very very salty.

Food is great but now have to wait outside for long periods because priority seems to go to deliveroo & other taxi pickup s at the rear of shop, while you wait in the cold & rain. Suggest more staff or stop back door trade 😔

We frequently use Holmbush Fish bar. The food is fresh and delicious and the staff are friendly and polite. The premises are clean and well run. It can get very busy at weekends and during holiday season, but its worth the wait. Recommend 5*

You can tell a good chip shop by the length of the queue. At busy times this one can be long. Better to order on their web site. Most orders are half hour so you can order and arrive just before the estimated Time to save waiting in the queue. Chips I feel are a personal thing some like them soggy and some like them crisp. For me these are just right. Not overly crisp or soggy. The batter is crisp and light just as it should be and the fish is a good quality. The pies etc seem to be standard chip shop fair so best to stay with fish not that the quality is bad it's just not exceptional like the fish.

The actual fish and chips were very good, once we got them. The nearly 45 minute wait ( there were 6 people on front of us in the queue) didn't go down so well. I have never seen a less efficient operation, ever. No organisation, no urgency, no throughput. Won't be going back.

The fresh fish and chips are good but the senior fryer went out of their way to ensure I had an older large cod and it was massively dry, should probably change their policy to cook on order or chuck the old fish to avoid reviews and greater loss of revenue as my never coming back. Be warned. Senior fryer told the junior server to change the fish for another. Caught you; lost me. Attached pics one lovely fresher fish and the bludgeoned remains of my dried up fish.
