My family and I loved the tasting menu and we all came away with different favourites. The wine pairing was really enjoyable and staff did a good job telling us all the details of the food and wine. I was hesitant about the blue cheese ice cream but I actually really liked it!I also came here the day before for a Valentine’s Day meal with my boyfriend and again we couldn’t fault it. Had 3 courses and all were absolutely delicious. I will definitely be back for a third time (just maybe not so soon!)

We had such a wonderful evening at Kota Kai. Relaxed and informal, but the food was exceptional. We enjoyed two small plates as starters to share, followed by a main each and a dessert to share - we were stuffed! Highly recommend the Kai Mojito, and soft shell crab bao bun - truly delicious! Thanks to all at Kota Kai

Wow wow, exceeded all expectations! In my mother’s 75 years on this planet she said it was probably the second time she has had a satisfying meal out !! Asian and hard to please 😬 ! Clean & fresh tasting food, excellent service, beautiful setting, we will be back for the next birthday celebration! Thank you

As a long term South East Asian Expat, getting a good Laksa nearby my Cornish home was a great bonus. All of the food was fresh and very tasty. Good portion sizes. Pricewise a lunch for two, with a bottle if wine dor £85 pounds was very good value.

What can I say about this restaurant!! This has to be the best meal we have ever had from any restaurant. We are down on Honeymoon and decided to give it a go based on the head chefs reputation. We couldn't book in to Kota so they recommended Kota Kai instead. We were not disappointed. Every single mouthful from start to finish was amazing 😊We left very full, the food portions were a good size and pleasantly surprised with the bill too!We both had 3 courses each, 1 oyster each and 5 alcoholic drinks between us and it came to £99.30.Would 1million percent recommend this place and we will be back next time we are down here.

What a place the fish and chips stunning. The calamari with mango green salad and palm sugar dressing was stunning more words not needed the mojito cocktail bar lady does it perfect. Recommend so very much. Of chef represented on great British menu for the banquet. and you will understand why

Incredibly lucky they had a cancellation otherwise it's a substantial waiting list, if you want to go I'd advise booking in considerable advance of actually going.Atmosphere is relaxed and informal, no need to dress up for the occasion; however, the food is as good as any high end restaurant I've been too.The food is essentially Asian or Asian inspired but using the freshest and best Cornish produce. We initially shared prawn crackers...I have a passionate hatred for prawn crackers due to them being oily and unpleasant; however, Kota Kai's are utterly delicious, I could eat them every single day.I had tempura oysters with wasabi mayonnaise, pork stock ramen with pork belly and we shared desserts, a raspberry cheesecake, rhubarb panna cotta, sticky toffee pudding and a chocolate brownie, all of which were superb.Kitchen is open and if you're close enough you can see your food being prepared. The staff are great, really friendly and chatty which makes a massive difference to the overall experience.Absolutely worth booking if you want something a bit different.

An underwhelming experience unfortunately. We were very excited for our visit after seeing Jude on the GBM, however we were left disappointed with our visit. The food was hit and miss overall with aspects of it being good but many shortcomings. The bao buns had a nice filling but the consistency of the buns themselves had a strange chewy texture rather than being pillowy and fluffy. The noodles in the laksa and ramen were over cooked and were overly soft with no bite. The taste of the broth and laksa was good however. The scallops made a pleasant starter. We sampled the wasabi tartare with chips and found that overall the wasabi taste was very slight and not that flavourful. The real let down was the decor. For a meal that with 2 drinks came to £40 a head, they really need to redecorate their “lounge” side room. With badly laid lumpy carpeting and cheap lamp shades, the ambience was akin to a budget hotel breakfast hall. It was really strange that they have decided to have a different decor in this side room to their main restaurant which looks very pleasant. It leaves a very bad first impression upon being seated in this side room as it’s very dark and dingy, especially after having walked through the main restaurant.Small touches in service were also amiss. Cheap paper menus printed on white paper are excusable in these times for “Covid reasons” when they are thrown away/ put in recycling after single use, but when they arrive looking creased and crumpled like they are simply used again that is not becoming of the price that the restaurant charges. Similarly when the bill is given, just a small tray or holder would have been far better than just putting the folded piece of paper straight on the table.Perhaps his main Kota restaurant would make a better experience but I would not bother coming here.

Excellent summer holiday lunch. Loved the eclectic menu that should cover all tastes. We shared 3 small plates as our starter - scallops with pork belly, duck bau bun and, the star of the show, Korean fried cauliflower which was both robust and light. These were 3 contrasting dishes with great flavours. For our mains we had the fish of the day - pan fried hake, and the seafood lassa, both delicious. We finished with a rhubarb panna cotta and trio of sorbets - unusual range of flavours available including strawberry and balsamic - a perfect finish to the meal which was flavoursome and filling, yet light. Service was excellent, friendly and attentive, and Jude was just as you expected from Great British Menu, warm and friendly. The meal was great value for money at £100 for the 2 of us including drinks, for food of this quality.

Lovely food served here. We had not booked a table but luckily managed to get some seating outside, lovely weather as well. We shared some crispy squid to start - perfectly cooked, it melted in your mouth! Next I had a soft shell crab bao bun, again superb! I could not find soft shell crab anywhere for years, so was very happy to get my fix! My partner had a duck bao bun and again it was lovely. Great place, highly recommend!
