Masons Arms in Cornwall

We were fooled by the top reviews on here which is why we went to this pub for lunch but trust me this is no hidden gem of Cornwall. My wife and I ordered Pork belly and Lamb cutlets with mash and 'seasonal vegetables' which consisted of canned sweet corn,  boiled parsnips and hard sliced carrots. The lamb cutlets were raw and just about browned. The Pork was tough and chewy. The decor is unwelcoming, tired and dated.On a positive note the service was good and that was how they scored 1 star.

I've visited the Masons Arms once before in 2021 and once again today after a long day of traveling from Suffolk. The service was excellent and the seat and serve times where spectacular as per the standard I have come to expect from the Masons Arms. Some lovely variety in both food and drink ranging from some "Propa Pub Grub" all the way to high end gastro food. After seeing the many places in the hospitality trade forget about the important aspects of a pub it was nice to see that it is not forgotten here. As the manager of a pub I have to say that this is one of the better establishments that I have visited - The only thing that I can suggest is a reprint of the menus with a bit more of an extensive description of the food served. Other than that - Absolutely stellar night !!

What a gem! Walked past this pub whilst away on holiday with friends... they had the sweetest Xmas window display. So warm and inviting. We called the following day and reserved a table for the Saturday evening. 4 Adults and a Toddler with allergies. The waiter was very accommodating and explained the menu. Not at all hesitant about speaking with the chef to double check ingredients for us. Food was delicious and the log burner next to our table made it all warm and cosy. Would return if and when we are in the area without a shadow of a doubt.

Everything you want from a pub and more .... a very warm welcome, great beer and delicious (generous portions) food. Certainly wish this was our local. Thank you for a really lovely evening.

Great selection including vegetarian options. Had dinner here twice - we had a burger, veggie lasagne, chicken & bacon meal and all were very tasty and high quality.Service was also excellent, so as the dining area and the music.Definitely deserves a better rating as current 4.2.

Quite justifiably on the Cask Marque Ale Trail, the St Albans Proper Job being in excellent condition. The food also is worthy if merit; the chicken korma being one of the most flavoursome this reviewer has experienced.Some of the garden furniture will feature on this year's bonfire night, I should think - many units are either rotten or splintered. This makes the outside area looking untidy and unattractive.Covid compliance well organised and monitored.Stunning ceiling adornments in one of the bars.

Lovely food .. traditional old worldy pub .. staff polite casual smart... distance within the pub was great... public car park just over the road... lots of choice on the menu x

The Masons Arms rescued a complete wash out of a day for us. Stopped on a horrible wet afternoon looking for a dog friendly spot for some lunch. Couldn't have been happier to open the door into this charming pub to see a roaring stove.We were made so welcome, beautiful food and good beer, and landlords were completely brilliant and great hosts. Really can't recommend enough, also free parking in the village for 2hours and a nice spot just across the road to walk the dog.

Absolutely awful. My partner and I are currently visiting cornwall for a holiday. After reading very good reviews for the masons arms we decided to try it. To start with we were promptly sat at our table which I reserved that day. We were asked straight away what we would like to drink, so we kindly asked for a few minutes to decide after looking at the menu. The lady said she would be back in a minute to take our order. 20 minutes past and still no one came to take my order. I then decided to go to the bar and order our drinks and our meals at the same time, we did not want to wait any longer. 2 other tables followed me as they were in the same situation, the bar lady served me and then told the younger girl to go serve the others at their tables. I then took our drinks back (which were very nice) and we waited about 20 minutes for our food. The one table which didn't have their drinks still didn't have them after the younger one took their order the same time as me. I had the lasagne which was very basic and lacked flavour, the garlic bread it came with was litterly 'garlic bread'. It came with a mountain of salad. My partner had the chicken the curry which was the final straw. The bowl as seen in the picture was filled with water. The photo is after I drained alot of it onto a plate. I called the young waitress over and explained the problem and she did not know what to say. She asked me what I wanted her to do and i asked if we have another one will it be the same and she replied yes probably. I then asked for the manager and told her the issue and straight away she said it was very watery. The shef followed the woman and said it is the way she cooks the curry and she doesn't add and thickener to it which is why it is watery. She offered to make us something else if 'we' didn't like the way she cooks it. This was patronising and we kept it. My partner only ate half of this curry because of the water. It had clearly been microwaved which caused the water. When the plates were finally collected we asked for the young girl for the bill. We waited 10 minutes and nothing. The table next to us then asked the lady for their bill which was brought straight away. They complained that their sausages were raw and the steak was very fatty. They asked for their drinks to be taken off and the lady sorted it for them. Another young girl then came and asked us if we wanted desserts even though we were still waiting for the bill. I asked her as well and still nothing. I finely asked the older lady for the bill which she brought over straight away. She did not take anything off our bill and did not resolve any of our issues tonight. Extreamly disappointed and would not recommend.
