I booked up here based on good reviews.....This review only gets 3 stars as on the one night we could come here, their extractor fan/ fridge had broken down. Only after I rang them up to confirm booking half hr before we were due to arrive, did she say..Oh sorry we have to cancel cause of...So we had to go somewhere else last minute.

What a gem of a place! You will need to book in advance if you want to eat here. A quirky restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. The service and food was excellent. My husband and I shared 3 starters - calamari, beer battered cauliflower florets and the seafood soup. For mains I had the Cornish Smokies which was superb and my husband had the Monkfish, Tiger Prawn, Chorizo & Halloumi Skewers which he thoroughly enjoyed. We wish we had found this restaurant as soon as we got to St Ives as we would happily have eaten here all 3 nights !! ;-)

Been twice, with family inc. 2 young children. Staff very friendly, service prompt & helpful. Good menu inc some non fish items. All dishes we had were very well prepared and presented, and, they ranged from splendid sea food platter with 6 different types of fish to fillet steak, cooked just as requested. Small wine list but what we tasted was good. Our family who live in St Ives will certainly go there again, and so will we, when next we visit.

This is a busy restaurant with good reason, so recommend you book ahead. The local mackerel starter is delicious. Any main course is a good choice, but really enjoyed the hake on Mediterranean vegetables with chorizo.

Wow, we have been coming to St Ives for years and have only just tried the Mermaid. The food was absolutely delicious so good we ordered more! The staff were friendly particularly great with our kids. We come every New Year and the Mermaid will become a staple as I long as we get a table. Superb!!

Good food at a decent price. The interior is querky and aclectic.

We've been returning to the Mermaid for over 20 years. The decor is not to everyones taste but I hope they don't change its quirkiness to become another contemporary clone. The food ( and especially fish) is beautifully cooked and the service always warm and welcoming. Tonight was no exception and we look forward to being back next time we are in St Ives

To be honest this is the sort of place I would usually walk past, checked table clothes, wine bottles on the ceiling, but I had booked a table after reading a lot of positive reviews so decided to give it a go, and am I glad I did. The food is gorgeous, the service is friendly and the pews were more comfortable than I would have expected. I would definitely return. Didn't give it 5 stars because it was very noisy from being so busy.
