The chips were so greasy they were dark in colour and dripping. To the point the bottom of all 4 of the portions of chips had a puddle of oil in the bottom of them. We left them. The staff took over 10 minutes to tell us what the soup of the day was when we had to go up and ask. There doesn't seem to be anyone in particular charge they are all young and didn't seem to be very interested in customer focus. It's very disappointing as the food used to be lovely in there and very attentive staff.

Breakfast arrived with wrong toast (white not brown) items missing i.e no hogs pudding. Only one mushroom. Egg undercooked. Very disappointing.

Really great service, you're greeted at the door and taken to your table. It used to be more like a cafeteria but is now a more up class cafe/restaurant. The menu is gorgeous, the coffee is great. Such a great and unique place to sit and eat surrounded by old engine house equipment. Love it!

Went for some lunch, eventhough the presentation was good. The fish was bland and one of the pots wasn't cleaned before I used it. It had peas in but I had discovered tomato sauce stuck to the sides of the dish after I had eaten most of the peas. Talk about food hygiene. A very displeasing visit this time and I am wary of visiting again.

Staff need to be aware of the product they are serving. On visiting for breakfast this morning, we placed an order for food and asked the server for the carbohydrate information on a white floury bap and the sausages, as my daughter would have to work out her insulin dose required before eating. Despite numerous members of staff saying they were working on it, the food arrived with the server stating they were unable to provide this information. By the time we had worked out the information as an estimate off google and delivered the dose, the food was cold. In the day and age of people having allergies and specific requirements, i think it is disgusting that the information asked for was not able to be provided, and this could have resulted in a medical episode.

Waited way too long for a “toasted” sandwich, came out as warm white bread with a sprinkle of cheese and for the price would expect more than that. Sent it back to receive this…not much better. Working in hospitality myself I know how much stuff costs and cheese is minimal. As for the price paid for the sandwich I expect better. Understand if short staff but still.

I don’t like leaving bad reviews, but I’m afraid that this place deserves it.The food was nice, some of the girls were nice too and you could see that they were trying their best.BUT! I don’t think I’ve ever been to such a disorganised establishment in my life!I booked a table for seven and there was only room for six. Before we’d even ordered we were almost given someone else’s food, twice. The food we ordered came in dribs and drabs. Not just for our group, but I had half of my meal delivered, followed by the rest later. Then came the same meal all over again! When we went to pay we were told that we couldn’t because there was nothing written up on the till (Naturally they sorted out that problem!) We were also told that we could have a discount, but that never happened in the end either.I really wish I’d booked elsewhere!

I wasn't expecting to see such beautiful decoration when I looked from the outside. It is a grade II listed building with some old mining machines and blackboards as decoration. Loved it! My friends and I also like the idea that the profit of the cafe goes to a Fund which support the local Garden and Museum. Food and coffee was also good. Great place to visit! Also dog friendly 🙂
