We had pre booked a week ago for this lovely meal. Three courses, excellently served in great atmosphere. They served all the family including three children. It was nice to go somewhere special to cap off a fantastic week in Cornwall. They did do gluten free food for all. However the children were disappointed to only get ice cream for desert. But as we were very full, not a real issue.

Cold welcome. We chanced a walk in this evening, understanding that they may be fully booked. (20:00 24/03/22)Came into the hallway and there’s a door to the resturant, a server was on the other side of the door but took a moment to acknowledge us so we held the door open and waited to be greeted. when she was ready to speak to us we were very rudely berated for holding the door open and letting the cold air in. Then offered a table but the attitude we were greeted with really left a bad impression so we left.As a first impression of such a well reputed resturant, it was really disappointing. I would not recommend just based on that rude member of front of house staff.

Husbands birthday treat, wow loved it. Early lunch with family who all enjoyed the very tasty food with a nice bottle of wine. Great friendly staff 👍

We popped in on the off chance to see if they had a table available for lunch, our luck was in. Lovely ambience, food was exceptional, service was spot on too. Would return.

Visited Padstow , for the first time, on our way back home from our break in St Ives.Having done the usual of scouring the town for somewhere to eat, we decided to try this.We weren’t disappointed. The eatery itself was delightful. A great veranda area to eat, and lovely inside too, which is where we ate.The staff were outstanding. Very friendly, informative and helpful. The food itself was first class. Very reasonably priced too.We shared a plate of prawns to start with, and the chef even plated them up separately for us.My wife had a bowl of mussels for main course, which seemed to be never ending. They were delicious. I had cod with noodles in a mild curry, which was very tasty.I would thoroughly recommend a visit and will certainly be visiting again.

As a massive fans of Rick Stein we could not believe of the whole experience. Started very well with friendly and attentive male staff member who took the orders and brought up the drinks. He then disappeared ( lunch break?) and it all went wrong from there. Mains arrived before starters... Starters were cold but we didn't want to complain. Then the mains arrived back and two of them were not even what we've ordered. Female staff not very friendly. Disappointed very much.

Really disappointing! Average breakfast - and kipper not nearly as nice as ones I cook at home from my local fishmonger. Toast cost extra and turned out to be sliced supermarket bread - fine but didn’t expect to be paying big money for it at a Rick Stein restaurant. Coffee was excellent and staff were delightful. Approx £45 for two of us.

The worst place to eat. We were 9 people at 2 tables. Not even the first round of drinks for table with 4 people was correct. Steake was rare when asked for medium to well done. Deserts were a mess ordered one scoop ice cream and got three and no ice cream with the sticky toffee pudding.Had to ask for the olives that is served with bread and olives. The bill was the best. Both tables got chargedfor 9 deserts. Dirk and Mariette

Great experience at a Rick Stein restaurant. We were determined to get in at least somewhere during our holiday/vacation that was Rick Stein's and we were lucky to snag a reservation here at the cafe a couple of weeks before while planning the trip. I would also say that it is pretty much essential to book ahead of time - we were sat near the door and heard time and time again at 3 or 4pm while we were eating lunch 'sorry, we are fully booked all day...no, not even 20 minutes for a quick coffee'. Seriously, get a reservation or you will be sent to Stein's Fish & Chips for a Rick Stein's experience (which is still great by the way...just not the same as sitting in one of his sit-down restaurants). Because they are so booked up here, the seating times/duration are strictly adhered to, so you will be reminded of when you need be done with the table (all done very politely - just wanted to bring it up in case anyone is coming here for a very leisurely several hour dining experience as I think a table nearby was planning to do).We ended up with the scallop starter, bread and olives, hake, and sea bass fillets. All were delicious, though I will say that we both ended up preferring the sea bass. The mains were also quite big, so definitely well worth the price. We found we did not need proper dinner afterwards. Service was attentive but not overbearing and the atmosphere was charmingly casual.Parking is a nightmare in Padstow so would absolutely recommend parking in one of the more satellite lots - do not rely upon the town car park at the harbour. They aren't that much further away and the additional time you spend walking (10 minutes) will be far outspent waiting for a spot to open up at the harbour.
