Tasty and freshly prepared. I cannot remember the last time I had chips that were as tasty as these. Definitely not prepared in used veg oil. The restaurant was pleasantly busy. Many patrons were waiting outside the restaurant at the takeaway counter for their orders. They are obviously very popular. And others grouped together in the parking area munching the delicious food they had bought at Stein's.

Meal ruined by human hairs in food.Absolutely gutted as was looking forward to tasting the food here but sadly had a few mouthfuls and found stands of long purple/reddish hair in my food. By this point had already left otherwise I would have gone back, completely lost my appetite after this so ended up binning the food.Clearly staff do not wear hairnets or need to quality check better for hairs in food.

Had takeaway cod and chips. Probably the best fish and chips I've ever had. Really reasonable price too! Would really reccomend a visit here and will definitely be back

It's a very decent, tasty, but expensive fish and chips. I felt very satisfied with my meal, but at the end of the day, it's take away style fish and chips so don't expect haute cuisine. The beer Chalky, named after Steins dog was great though! Was really good to see an option of either battered of grilled fish on the menu. The restaurant does not welcome dogs, but there are a couple of tables round the back you can sit at with your take away assuming there is space. Service was pretty quick too!

Good portions, nicely cooked and tasty. Not so expensive, roughly what you'd pay for the same in a pub. Service was friendly and attentive. We enjoyed both the meal and experience.

What can I say? £35.90 for 3 cod 3 portions of chips and 2 bottles of water take away. The portion size is small and the fish is not aloud to drain for long enough so it's greasy. This in turn runs into the chips making them the same. Not saying it wasn't nice tasting as it was, just wish I had a not such a greasy and an adult size portion for the price.Overall you're paying for the name not the quality so wouldn't bother going again

Just had lovely delicious fish and chip supper from Rick Stein’s Padstow fish and chip shop. The portions were good , the batter was lovely and crispy and the chips were well cooked and crisp as well.Staff are all very polite and courteous, and service was with a smile. There has been a big improvement since our last visit, both in the quality of the meal and the system in place for ordering and collecting your fish and chips. As a local I am happy to recommend!

It is with a heavy heart that I write this review having seen such a lot of Rick on TV. He has talked a lot about "good food" and "good service" but how does it really stack up?I gave his Padstow chip shop a try on a super hot day in July with my family for a last day holiday treat. We had avoided the typical standard food on offer in a lot of places in Cornwall and kept the pennies for a nice meal. Sadly the meal was pretty average and service pretty poor. We stood and waited for ages for a table due to slow staff action. Then eventually we ordered. Asking for Starters first of course. They forgot the jug of water, when we and the Manager seemed put out when I called her back to order a 2nd beer for £5. They seemed to want to rush around but produced not much. They only have a few tables to serve. Some time later..... (over half an hour) starters arrived which two were wrong and had to be sent back. To arrive instantly again! Clearly sat there cooked already! Salad on starters pretty poor and dressing had a huge amount of sesame and not much soy. You don't put thet much oil on a deep fried, battered scallop of course. Sadly both were overcooked! The dressing needed an emulsifier. Also £10 for three scallops is a touch steep Rick unless they are tip top.Oyster battered starter tasted good but same salad and dressing issue was there. Shame really.3 fish and chip meals. They forgot the tartar and mushy peas for one even though it costs extra. Fish was very good and nice size. Chips were dry and not crispy also dry inside. I think they had sat a long time and been left. Not sure about dripping cooked?Dressed crab special. Sad as at £15 it was very salty and lacked "dressing". Needed more seasoning not salt!So Rick sadly not the best and we will not be coming back a 2nd time I think. Also the toilet although nice inside had not been checked all afternoon and between time of arrival and leaving the same cling ons were still there and bins full. But nice to ginger handwash. They did at least knock of £10 for the poor scallops but I think they can do a lot better overall. It was really not vey busy and the staff are not very sharp. The service slow and food just chip shop pretty much. For £25 each!Need to look back to Keith Floyd for more inspiration!

Simply fabulous. Couldn't get a reservation for weeks at the main seafood restaurant but was kindly advised by them on the day to try the fish and chip shop in Padstow. Was dubious but a short walk later we arrived, qued for 10 minutes and were shown to the fishmonger side rather than the chip shop itself. It's better, sat at the bar, watched them working behind the counter, fabulous vibe. Delicious food. It's not just fish and chips. We had oysters, scallops and prawns. A mixture of starters we found perfect for lunch time. Glass of Rick Steins promoted Spanish white. Perfect. Friendly, relaxed feel. Staff are happy to interact, we had a good giggle. Left with a tub of fresh prawns to eat on our onward journey. Bought Ricks shellfish book. Be getting busy in the kitchen soon! Definitely return next time we're in the area!
