The Cornish Arms in Cornwall

Rude bar person when checking in. Main meal sent back. Undressed salad which was best before date, cold doughy flat bread, overcooked lamb. Serving staff polite. My husbands steak was delicious. Beautiful environment.

Excellent for the new tourist of Cornwall. They do it very well but for locals or old tourist move out the way your money is not wanted even for a cheeky pint,just sit over in the corner next to the toilets. If you want an overpriced experience and be Rick stained and believe the hype then this experience is for you. I personally believe that the people who have taken over Padstein regardless of what establishment will regret in the long term this steinification and will destroyed the goose that laid the golden egg. I for one will unlikely be entertaining most of the establishments in this area and look elsewhere for genuine hospitality, most of these places have forgotten who kept them going when the times where lean.

We returned here this year after previous excellent visits to find a very limited outdoor menu and what is advertised as BBQ leg of lamb for £24.95. Sounded fantastic but when it arrived it was so disappointing. What you actually get is just a few pieces of lamb, 2 bits of bread, lots of Lettuce and cherry tomatoes and a very small pot of tzatziki. Ridiculously overpriced, we feel robbed.

We had a nice drink in the garden midweek and spoke to someone about coming in on Saturday. As we were on holiday and didn't know what time we would be there so couldn't book. We were told as it would only be for 2, it wouldn't be an issue.We arrived just before 6 on the Saturday, after walking through rain showers. We waited about 5 minutes at the desk to be told they do not do walk ins at the weekend. When I said I asked during the week the young lad told me, quite rudely that I was mistaken and no one would have said that. Effectively calling me a liar.I hope that Rick Stiens other establishments have better trained and polite staff.Luckily there is another pub in St Merryn where we were welcomed by all the staff. Thank you Farmers Arms.

An absolutely perfect lunch ! Pie and mash with a jug of gravy for me and grilled hake fillet with chips and homemade tartare sauce for my wife. The only reason it’s not a 5 is the staff, who were well below par.

Really lovely meal. The staff were efficient, helpful and very polite. Would recommend.

Gave 1 star as the chap that served us drinks was very friendly. We were really looking forward to eating here especially as it’s in Rick Steins empire. Food was very poor and it wasn’t cheap. It’s so disappointing but just another example of places in great locations getting away with rinsing the public. Not great for your reputation Mr Stein, you need to up your game!!

It was going OK till dessert. June menu: chocolate brownie, sticky toffee pudding, pavlova, or strawberries. Went for pavlova but they were out. So no choice but strawberries (it's summer... take the winter desserts off?) And they were literally just strawberries (with a blob of clotted cream, which every dessert came with). They were served cold, which I thought a decent chef would know strawberries are best served room temperature. And they tasted no different to your average supermarket strawberries. Starter and mains were nice, but non-TV-chef-associated pubs do this kind of food without the price. Overall, not value for money.

We had a lovely lunch, the food and service were excellent, and we love that our dogs are welcomed. Very nice ambience. Reasonable cost. Have to book now, which we did the day beforehand...but could only book for lunch not dinner. This was our second visit and we will always make a point of coming here for a meal when visiting Cornwall.

Fantastic place. Quaint bar and magnificent, large, restaurant at the side and back. Amazing service at the bar and restaurant. Smallish menu but varied and surprisingly normal restaurant prices. Fish and chips - fish was fabulous and batter was special, normal thin chips, lovely mushy peas and butter.Will definitely be visiting again. Somewhere you need to book in advance.Outdoor pizza ovens were being installed for this summer.
