The Country Fryer in Cornwall

Waited ages for rude service and seriously overpriced fish and chips. The chips were stuck to the paper and the fish was awful. My husband was going to have a chip butty but there was hardly any chips and the fish was really small. Will not be returning

Fish n chips at there best. Excellent gang here, shame they aren't closer to my plaice.

Completely shocked at the customer service of this chip shop. Unnecessary rudeness from the women at the till. Won’t be returning. She acted like it was her job to ruin our day.

As per most of the reviews the customer service really isn’t a thing here! They go above and beyond to be the rudest they can be well the old women anyway! My family had left it late finding somewhere to eat so we were running out of options and this place was a last resort. As a local it’s common knowledge this chip shop seriously lack customer service any sort of cooking skills and have a very bad reputation. I pre-warned my family that the customer service isn’t great but I definitely didn’t expect the treatment we got tonight. It was a swift reminder to avoid this place like the plague. We all ended up walking out after the old lady thinking she is the law around mask wearing. If you are exempt from wearing a mask this doesn’t matter she will not serve you anyway and will be confrontational about it too. This vile women really needs to educate herself around exemptions. Also from past experience even if they know your are clearly vegetarian because I stated this, they don’t have a problem not advising you that they cook their greasy vile chips in animal fat. I ended up finding out months later from a new member of staff. Well I tried to give this place a second chance but now I know they clearly haven’t learnt. 👋🏼

Stayed in Lostwithiel this week and finally got round to trying the Chippy, it was absolutely wonderful. The staff were nice, the prices were good and the chips were lovely!!I bought a Small Chips which was £2 and my partner got a Small Chips, Battered Sausage and a bottle of Coke for £5.We think these were a lot nicer than our usual local back at home. Clean place, Hygiene 5 which is stated in the window, lots of service from the locals who queued with us and we then ate the chips on a picnic bench near the River Fowey. I had previously bought my own bread rolls from the Co-op from a picnic I was going to have but the Chip Shop does do a Chip Butty.

Not nice. Soggy chips. Tasteless fish. Won't be going back. ....bit embarrassing to think that holiday makers are expecting good quality fish when they come to Cornwall!! ....We only travelled from Par for them !!

Pretty decent fish and chips, chips has more flavour compared to my local fish and chips in London. The cod was very meaty and the batter wasn't too thick either. Mushy peas was very nice an the curry sauce is thick and punchy ~ overall thumbs up

Without doubt the worst service and fish and chips I’ve ever eaten.Ordered haddock and chips, and the portion of chips was tiny - around 10 in total. What they lacked in number they made up for in weight as they were full of grease. I’m glad I didn’t buy a drink as the grease quenched my thirst. I didn’t need to swallow the chips as they slid straight down my throat. They seem to be triple cooked but not Heston style, they are triple cooked in grease.I also ordered scampi and asked for a large portion but they only do regular. I guess it’s too confusing to add a few extra, charge more, make more profit and keep a customer happy. Then again, happy faces weren’t on the menu either.It’s not hard to smile and it’s not hard to cook good chips but this place are finding it impossible. Maybe the lack of competition means they can do what they like. I’d suggest the owners try Fancines or White River fish and chips in St Austell. They would then learn how to make customers happy.If someone wants to set up an easy profitable business, choose to open a good fish and chips shop in Lostwithiel, you’ll have the whole village in no time.

I'm a Yorkshire girl, and home is a place where the fish is landed daily and hits the fryers by teatime so my standards are high. Country Fryer's fish n chips is without doubt the best I've had away from home. Fresh fish, light crispy batter and perfect chips. Tasty. And the service was friendly and helpful. Thanks ever so much!
