I have enjoyed a cheeky weekday lunch here many times and have also been for Sunday lunches as well so, I was keen to check out the new menu as there are new owners.I have to say though, that I was a bit underwhelmed by the lunch time menu choices. As a vegetarian, the only options were cheese sandwich, cheese jacket potato or a cheese ploughman's. The vegan offering was vegan halloumi. So, all cheese based and only one hotish option of the jacket potato. Personally, I like to treat myself if going for a pub lunch so it would have been nice to see some of the vegan evening menuoptions avaible on the lunchtime menu like the burger for instance. Also, the lunchtime menu doesn't make it clear whether you can still get sides like chips, onion rings etc.I opted for the ploughman's which, was nice but, it came with gerkins, silverskin onions and pickled chopped red onions. For me, that's a bit too much vinegar based pickles and it would be nice to see a sweeter chutney (perhaps tomato as you only get dressed salad leaves) served alongside the pickles. Also, I really wish it wasn't still served on the slate board. Personal preference but I do prefer a proper plate as stops things sliding off lol. My dining companion had a beef burger and chips and no complaints there. Liking the switch to Colwith chips. The sandwiches I observed other diners having did look nice and well presented etc but, as previously mentioned above, something a bit more substantial on offer for us non meat eaters please and perhaps a different sandwich filling rather than cheese. Falafel, hummus and or roasted veg, veg pate etc. I will come again as it's a lovely pub and the owners are making strides to spruce it up etc and I especially love the new Chough logo but I think I'll have to try dinner there and not lunch as there is slightly more choice.

New owners, give it a go. They are friendly and enthusiastic. Sell Skinners ale, what's not to like. I am a local.

Dinner was nice. Warm friendly atmosphere in the pub. Staff were polite an helpful. Bed was comfy. The included breakfast was very good. Definitely good value for money in my opinion and nice quiet location.

Excellent service and food, great choice as well. Best sirloin stake my husband has ever had. Fantastic place, well worth a visit

Overpriced!! Shame, it's a beautiful place, but it will price itself out of the running. Only the wealthy would warrant paying over the odds for a meal. So it will become unreachable for"normal" holiday makers.

Lovely old pub, great food, very nice publican & staff. Good accommodation...dog friendly. If your still worried about covid, this is great as they have accommodation adjoining the pub but separate, great place to relax peacefully, glad we went.

I liked it because the food is really good and big so if you are really hungry go there. Ok talking about the rooms its got aloy of space the bed aren't comfy enough for me. Really good place definitely recommend

We didn't book for a stay, we passed though on the way to St.Austell, good variety food and local beers, with beer garden, one of the oldest pubs in Cornwall, would make a good stay and visit, not far from the Eden Project and coastal locations.

We ate here last Sunday, whilst the service was fantastic the food was an absolute let down, the Sunday roast was disgusting! The scallops where very questionable.

You get a very warm welcome. The staff are very friendly and always have time to talk with you. We have been going there for 4 years now while we are on holiday. The food is great and have never had to complain. We will come again next year. My husband and I recommend the Sunday roasts as they are good portions and the meat is nice and tender.
