The Noughts & Crosses Inn in Cornwall

Can’t comment on the food, i popped in to ask about a table, and was told to come back in 15mins and we’ll have a table for you, I waited and went back and told actually no there’s no tables after all. It’s not a problem if it doesn’t affect you but with Type 1 Diabetes I wasted valuable time waiting for the false promise of a table, when I really needed to eat. Won’t be asking them again for a table again.

We ate here last night. Fabulous food. We had scallops and catch of the day. Absolutely great tasty food and well presented. Staff very friendly and musical entertainment was good too. Definitely go here again

We went on the the recommendation of a local, glad we did, quirky little place tucked away, friendly staff and owner was very accommodating, the food was amazing and the Sunday roast looked good but we had not booked so will have to return to sample. Highly recommend

Really nice place food was good, could do with a steak knife for the steak, had to wait for new potatoes as they never came out with the fish other than that Really enjoyed the place

Lovely bar with a good food menu. Only called in for a drink before dinner, & the chap behind the bar was lovely & very knowledgeable about gin (as well as other drinks). Would definitely recommend.

Had Sunday lunch which was absolutely fabulous. The staff are attentive and friendly and made the whole experience a real pleasure. The beef pot roast with roast potatoes and vegetables was lovely. Will definitely be going back when we are next in Polperro.

The food was very nice but the venue is incredibly small. The only thing smaller than the venue is the menu; not unusual and something I actually prefer but despite eating early in the evening (6pm) and the venue being in a fishing port they had no crab. This meant nearly a quarter of the menu was unavailable. Fair enough.Ordering the Steak we were offered a choice of cut, lovely, unfortunately not listed on the menu nor explained when ordering was the hidden charge that took a £25 sirloin (menu listed) up to £32 for the fillet. The 10% tip was also nicely hidden and added when the contactless terminal was loaded and blindly presented.The food itself I would rate 5/5. Local excellent ingredients and pretty much everything was cooked incredibly well. Even ignoring anything written above I would have still given 5/5.The venue had live music that, while great, it is entirely too small for especially while eating qnd left for an uncomfortable loud atmosphere for the maybe 20 people in the room.On top of this the wait staff and who I presumed to be the owner, while polite, were very pushy and hovering alot trying to turn around tables. A couple of times we had to rescue plates that were still being eaten from. We were in less than an hour total and had maybe 15-20 minutes with my food before I had the contactless terminal brought to me (with that sneaky tip) and politely instructed to pay....while I was half way through my main course.The food was very very good, compliments to the chef. Just let down by a confused venue trying to do too many things.

Sunday lunch was excellent, but dont visit if time is an issue. Only one person taking orders and running the bar and one other person wandering around chatting to customers but doing little else. A couple did arrive wait to be served for fifteen minutes and then walked out. Such a shame as food is excellent they just need a good Manager.

Just had a fab dinner there. Scallops to start were plump and juicy, not over cooked at all like others. Followed by the steak and Stilton pie. It was a proper pie with lovely steak chunks and a gravy with melted Stilton. The service was friendly, attentive but not too 'in your face'. Soo much better than some of the higher rated restaurants in the village.
