The Oystercatcher in Cornwall

Somewhat expensive for the size of the portions etc, but good quality food. Staff were very accommodating for a birthday cake the we supplied. Overall very nice evening. If however the restaurant was a little warm for my liking. Worth a visit if your around!

We only stopped for a drink but I hear the food is very good. The view is stunning. And the staff were very welcoming and friendly.

Couldn't fault the place! Fantastic food, excellent service and amazing decor. My partner and I visited in March, so it wasn't at all busy, but it seems as though the restaurant area is well separated from the bar for those who want a quieter evening. Very dog friendly, with the pooch being welcome both inside and outside, and easy parking too, which was an added bonus!

The views from the Oystercatcher are outstanding and the building takes full advantage. We had 'half size' cod and chips which were more than enough for lunch and the Tribute ale was well kept and tasty. A very pleasant gathering for a friend's birthday.

Dinner went down a storm on a stormy night! The restaurant was short staffed due to Storm Euctice but service and food were both excellent. They called us before to make sure we knew there would be a reduced menu. We were made to feel very welcome and service was efficient on a busy night. We had a great meal and loved the desserts - the chocolate brownie and lemon brulee tart were a great way to end the meal. Plenty of gluten free options. Nice family and dog friendly vibe.

Nice service; terrible food.Have eaten at the Oystercatcher plenty of times over the years and sad to say the food has gone downhill.I order the ‘hand pressed’ burger and when it was served it looked anything but hand-pressed.It was hard & tasted terrible.I told the waiter I was not happy and asked if it was sourced fresh from a local butcher or frozen (it looked like a burger you might buy in the supermarket frozen section).He said it was fresh - I have my doubts.They refunded my meal.

The apartments, for the price they would normally be are very basic. There is no washing machine, no hoover and the floors get sandy. The beds are just doubles and not very comfortableWe ate in the restaurant on valentines evening, the food was great, the service was not. 25 minutes to get a drink, we had to remind the waiter after 15 and still waited. They they lost our dessert order and had waited over 30 minutes for this and our second drink order didn't get delivered after 15 minutes so we cancelled it. The manager did apologise personally but that still didn't stop the second drinks order being slowThe tables were not be cleared, now you would think it was that busy and this is why it didn't happen, but it wasn'tAll in all it ruined what we wanted to be a romantic evening and this was all after we had been moved to the oystercatcher because the Port William had run out of gas.I think St Austell breweries may need to give their managers further training as I am from the pub trade and acustomer service focused manager and I wouldn't have accepted this from my staff

Nice and warm after a cold walk. Friendly service , great views, extensive menu. Meal was lovely (Rissotto a little scarce but delicious) Partner enjoyed Vegan burger. We are local and will be back soon.

Popped in here for some food, the place is very friendly and staff were great however food was well below par.I ordered the hand pressed burger at £14, I mean £14 for a burger is pricey and I'm happy to pay for good quality, this however was far from good quality.It certainly wasn't hand pressed made by the chef in the kitchen, I'm my opinion this was a burger that was bought in from somewhere. It was hard as a rock and tasted awful , I like my burgers simple, just a bit of lettuce and a nice bun, if the meats good what else do you need?I guess we are all so used to pubs and restaurants putting a burger on the menu and charging high prices for them these days even if they really are not worth it. Anyway I decided to get some other food, I chose the fish and chips, for £15 again pricey but maybe worth it? Absolutely not, the batter was rock hard and still raw on the inside fish was undercooked in places and only just warm. I gave up at this point.High points, nice place, lovely friendly staff, maybe I just hit it in a bad day but if you like good quality food especially if you like a good burger I'd give this place a miss.

The hake was overcooked and cold at the same time, the chicken was dry, the fries had to be sent back as they were solid and crunchy. Beer a fiver a pint. The service there is excellent but the food and drink isn't cheap and lets the place down. Would have given it two stars but for the service.
