We were very excited to try the roasts here after it opened under new management so booked for my Mum's Birthday and when it came out on the boards it looked amazing, however unfortunately that wasn't the case at all.All of the meat was SO hard to cut, we asked for steak knives, they didn't have any so they brought us a little sharp knife and said it was the only one they had, so we shared this around the table to cut up our meat, even with the sharp knife my mum's beef was not able to be cut, I went and asked the staff if they could bring her some replacement beef as it wasn't edible, they came and explained they only had some well done beef left, my mum said this would be fine, after about 10 minutes... They brought some beef (completely different to what everyone had before, very thin and well cooked) compared to the thicker rarer slices we had, this was able to be cut so could be eaten, although it was unfortunately then quite dry.The mashed suede, the potatoes and the parsnips were nice. The Yorkshire's came out in linen bags before the food, served cold, which we thought was very odd. All of the veg took a lot of cutting, such as the asparagus, tender stem broccoli (or not so tender) etc. The cauliflower in the cauli cheese was mostly cauliflower stalks.Unfortunately although it looked amazing, this was the most disappointing roast we have had. Not sure if it's because we booked at 3.30 so late in the day?On the positive along with the bits mentioned above that were nice, we had a lovely gin and tonic, just such a shame about the main event, can't recommend visiting here for any more than a drink.

Where do I start this was my 1st and only visit, on trying to drive into the car park I nearly hit somebody coming out of the toilets as the doors open onto the drive.Tried to order a brandy and ginger only to be told no ginger ale so ordered a medium size rosé and a cider for me decided to get some crisps as well only to be told they only have homemade said ok.Jesus Christ what a shock when told the price £18-50 for 2 drinks and a bowl of not so crisp crispsWill never be back but did meet a very interesting local who was a mine of information about the history of the pub

Very sweet place, nice decor inside, friendly staff. The only reason we didn't stay for lunch is that we all wanted a cooked lunch being quite hungry, but they only serve small bites, sandwiches etc. I bought some cinnamon buns, which I would call cruffins, and they were nice and buttery. You can sit outside overlooking the river below.

Excellent dog friendly pub, with currently very tasty weekday light lunches and drinks, breakfast and roast at the weekend

I had breakfast with a friend in The Wheel Inn last Saturday and loved it. The 'slab' almost defeated us, but we came out on top. The coffee the pub serves is amazing and can beat any trendy coffee shop in Cornwall or even London. The pub looked fresh an comfy, and the team looked as good, if not better! Definitely a winner for breakfast, and I hear that for a roast on Sundays you need to book weeks in advance. You will see us again, thank you!

Called in at 5pm on Wednesday on way to Truro. Well done on the very smart transformation from the pub as it was. You deserve success. The pub is great and very friendly. No main meals today but the " snacks " of toasted pork and apple sauce and a pork pie were of mammoth proportions and reasonably priced. Local beer (Verdant from Penryn) and good quality wine. Will definitely call again (and again. )

Sunday roast sharing platter was perfect, delicious, tender meats and a great selection of vegetables with massive Yorkshire puddings. A lovely atmosphere and good value for money.

The place was interesting, friendly staff, let down by the food. All of the vegetables, with the exception of the sprouts which were solid, were overcooked or burnt. Our table was at 4:30PM and there were others later than us having the same issue with sprouts flying off plates when trying to be cut.

Amazing pub, incredible Sunday Roast and fantastic team. One of the most historic pubs in Cornwall and now, after a post-covid refit and new team, this place is better than ever. As a local I shouldn’t really say how great it is as I want to make sure I always get a table, but it’s so good you really have to try it for yourself. It’s all about the best Cornish produce and this is evident in the drinks on offer and locally sourced food on the menu. It’s fantastic this special place is open again. Well done to the entire team.

Dropped in to this characterful rejuvenated pub for a lunchtime drink today. Fine beer, wine, company and a log burner. Lovely engaging bar staff. A wonderful way to spend a couple of hours. THOROUGHLY RECOMMENDED.
