WAX Watergate Bay in Cornwall

I will start by saying that it was nice to sit in a dog friendly place after a few hours of beach time, but unfortunately we had to wait about an hour for our order (2 veggie burgers and a salad) and when we chased it we were told it was because we'd ordered separately (all within about 2 mins of each other though..). I ordered the bean burger with Mexican fries and a pint of pale ale. For £26 the burger was disappointing (just a bean burger with 1 iceberg lettuce leaf and a bit of sauce), the fries were nice and so was the ale but sadly not worth the price tag or the wait for me (had to top up the parking to cover the longer wait too). Will definitely eat elsewhere next time but maybe for a casual pint.

Great place to have a very relaxed dinner. The service and food is good and I would definitely recommend this place if you visit Watergate.

Nice bar staff, drink prices average, food very expensive £15 for a burger, £10 for a BLT sandwich, I thought I was in London for a while, but I guess when your sat outside looking at the sea many people would think its an acceptable priced menu

We found this a great place to grab some lunch away from the main beach.Good food and great selection of beers/drinks.The staff were all super helpful and friendly too 👍🏻

Good view, good vibes, nice beers and pretty decent for a post beach walk drink and food.Why three stars? They stopped doing loaded fries. Why did they do this? Apparently because they were too expensive and people are ordering them too often. This has got to be the worst excuse I’ve ever heard. Customers obviously want it, so why take it away? Just put the price up a couple of ££. It’s literally just chips with some extra goodness on top. How is that different to putting the extras on the side of fries with the burger for £4? Even when asking to pay for this just on the side of chips, they still said no.I seriously don’t understand this logic and either the chef just can’t be bothered to make them or they don’t care about supply and demand. Not everyone wants burgers or full on meals. You are seriously missing out here.Loaded fries are the ultimate sharer and has got to be a staple part of any beach side cafe menu, especially somewhere like Wax.P.s they don’t even do nachos.

Used this place a lit in the past ..after hubs kitesurfing. This evening totally embarrassed I recommended this to family who are with us. No bubbly customer service.. a pint of doom bar that was the last of the barrel. Offered bottle replacement.. hmm that's ok.. not too bad as service. Went to order four meals with my brother. He got order taken I got ignored . I know I am short but I asked him if I was invisible? Got burgers and pizzas promptly delivered .. brioche type seeded buns were dry to say the least. No usual checks to see if anything else was needed or meals were ok. Don't I feel embarrassed that I recommended...deeply disappointed..lucky to get a one star rating from the four of us. We won't be visiting again. And god job covid clean down of tables is no longer really mandatory, as the outside tables were fit for the dump with their chipboard inners showing through...topic of chat this evening back at campsite .. ye gods .. we won't go there again.

many things this place needs to change not impressed, me and my partner came here for a relaxing couple of days and we left the first night. We just did not feel comfortable the shower barely drained and the TV did not work the bed felt like cardboard that also had a paper thin duvet and they shut the kitchen before 8pm never coming back again.

Terrible cheap food. If you like your pizzas to taste like the ones you used to have in school dinners, then you’ll love this place! However, if you like your food to taste fresh, using good quality ingredients, I’d avoid at all costs! Even the kids who happily chow down on Mcdonalds occasionally, failed to eat their food.

Fabulous food and really friendly team. Its horrific weather and its 1st March so Watergate Bay is very quiet. Left a tip so they could enjoy a drink and the chef made a point of flagging us down as we left to thank us. We will be back.
