My two friends and I normally come to Long Compton every two or three months on a Saturday for a meeting in the village. For the last five years (apart from lockdown) we have come to the Red Lion at lunchtime for a couple of pints of excellent Hooky. The pub has always been very busy in the past with a gaggle of locals always around the bar and dogs laying on the floor. Today however there was a sign on the door that stated that due to staff shortages only pub residents and those who have reserved tables would be served. Whilst we understood that serving food would be difficult with fewer staff we only wanted three beers and so decided to go in. We were shocked, the pub was all but empty. The lady standing behind the bar asked if we had reserved a table, when we said hadn't but that we only wanted three pints which we were quite happy to stand and drink and not take up the empty tables we were told that we couldn't as we hadn't reserved a table and were asked to leave. Something very strange going on here.

Arrived from devon on sunday for a weeks training course. Was greeted by the manager Johnathon who made us feel welcome. All the staff was friendly a proper home from home experiance in this loverly village pub.The rooms are very nice and onsuite shower and bathrooms are very ideal and kept very clean during my stay.Even though breakfast was at 8.30 our course time was the same the staff made sure we had breakfast ready early for us. Even in the evening for meal times. The food was faultless and very taste full and filling.A well recommended place and i would happly return anytime.

Excellent service, lovely relaxed atmosphere. Went with four friends who finished all their meal, so I can assume they enjoyed their lunch. My sweet potato curry was delicious. Slice of bread served with soup wasn't totally defrosted, but a small thing. Thank you, all.

We stayed here last year and really enjoyed the food and atmosphere, so when we visited the area again this year, we decided to go back for dinner. Once again, great food, friendly service, and a nice pint of local Hookey. I also enjoyed playing with the gorgeous pub dog, who kept bringing me her ball to throw.

Food was 100% delicious. Staff were super friendly and helpful, best service I’ve had somewhere in a while! We didn’t book and were looked after beautifully until a table came available! Worth the wait as the food was truly scrumptious - we eat out often and this is defo one of the best places we have been in a long time!

Ancient stone Inn. Very friendly and attentive staff, rarely see this level of service. Food good, good range of wines , local ale on tap. Some road noise in the room and can hear the bar through the floor but this finishes fairly early. Found mattress hard but some may not. Completely dog friendly pub. Ample parking.

Incredible, magical, inclusive, enjoyable experience. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed warmly by the incredible staff. Our dog Fidget was asked after by name, and given blanket, bowl and biscuits for his comfort. Nothing at all was too much.Information was offered for walks and destinations, time was taken to ensure our trip was special and unique.Dinner was incredible. A real experience (and how wonderful to have a room above so we could enjoy a bottle or two of wine without driving)We enjoyed dinner so much, we enjoyed the food both nights of our stay and didn’t venture further!!Breakfast was beautifully presented, the staff were attentive and we enjoyed it thoroughly. The other folk who had stayed were very lovely, a really nice clientele. We would stay again in a heartbeat. The room was beautiful, extremely clean and warm, with choice of pillows and a beautiful bath and fluffy towels (gosh don’t even get me started on the Molton Brown!!)What a beautiful place, we felt at home, while feeling on holiday, it takes a lot of hard work, thought, and kindness and generosity to create an experience like this.A brilliant anniversary.James, Damien and Fidget

My wife, myself and our 7 month old French bulldog visited today had a few drinks and a meal. Absolutely amazing staff, they all made us feel so welcome. Food was lovely and a real nice feel to the pub. Despite being an hour drive away, we will definitely be back. Thank-you all for making our day out so delightful.

Fabulous!. Lovely, newly done room, beautifully finished. Spacious, even though it was in the roof and had so much charm and character. Lovely bathroom with Molten Brown toiletries. Just really lovely. Had a superb meal in the restaurant and equally superb breakfast. Staff really friendly and helpful. Just can't say enough good things....and of course Bella the dog!! Will be back as soon as we can!!

Such a lovely spot. I’ve been twice in the past week (don’t judge me, it’s an excellent “middle ground” for friends and family!) All staff are courteous, friendly and professional, but a particular shout out to Rita who was so warm, welcoming and efficient on both my visits. The food is great, the atmosphere inside and out is lovely. Huge car park. Dog friendly. Highly, highly recommended.
