We booked a birthday meal at the restaurant - despite being the first to arrive, we waited 40 minutes for our drinks to arrive. The "nibbles" arrived almost 50 minutes after we'd ordered them - at the same time as our meal. Our vegetarian meals were unappealing to look at and my risotto was so tasteless it could have been a school dinner. The suet pudding was dry. Service was slow and patchy - for long periods there was no-one around to ask where our drinks/ food had got to. Very expensive and underwhelming. We will not be going again.

We had our wedding and reception here two years ago and it couldn't have been better. They did literally everything for us and looked after our guests extremely well, they took care of all the little details. The food was incredible, and all our friends with dietary requirements were given plenty of excellent food. Many of our friends have said since it was the best wedding food they'd had and I'd agree. The rooms were lovely, the breakfasts just as good. Absolutely first class, they gave us the most wonderful memories to look back on, thank you so much!

Lovely vegetarian Sunday lunch. All food and wine accurately marked. We ate in the Library which was a very pleasant place to be. All of the staff who looked after us were attentive and polite.I'd definitely like to come to The Bear again!

Glorified Premier Inn.Taking nothing away from the staff who dealt with situations as they could. But unfortunately (considering the price paid for a room) some fairly alarming failings were found. Aside from the bar area being sterile, other key amenities like working heating in our room would typically be expected at £170 a night, the heating finally kicked in at about 5am the next morning where it sounded like a small submarine was about to begin a 6 month tour of the Mariana Trench. There is a real sense that ownership and management are really trying to cut corners.Breakfast was pretty uninspiring, and despite choosing to sit at an empty table of our choosing, we were asked to move to sit elsewhere. Breakfast felt rushed and simple things like eggs on toast were burnt

Came here for a Sunday roast for a weekend away in December. Although the food and ambiance was lovely and the staff were told about my egg allergy (as well as me checking the allergen menu online with their menu QR code), I started to feel quite ill during my meal. Staff were quite busy and so we weren't asked how everything was, my friend had to go up to the bar to ask to pay our bill at the end. Subsequently I didn't get to discuss with them until I reached out by email when I was feeling better.I still haven't figured out what made me sick, the restaurant says the chef was informed and everything was cooked correctly. They were not sympathetic. I wonder whether the glass of red wine I had, had failed to list egg white as a fining agent-which apparently is quite widely used. From now on I will stick to vegan wine to be on the safe side, as maybe imported wines don't have to adhere to the same allergen policies. It's highly likely I was unwell due to an unknown supplier issue, but I don't feel the restaurant took me very seriously, as there's no way to prove either way what happened.

We got married at the Bear of Rodborough in November 2021 and it was such a magical day! The whole team were so attentive and worked so hard to make everyone feel very relaxed and well cared for (so thank you truly). The food was wonderful. The venue is perfect with its roaring fires, and sequence of rooms that were all used from the ceremony to dancing till midnight! We highly recommend it for an elegant yet wholesome wedding setting in the Cotswolds. Its setting itself on Rodborough common is unique with wonderful walks and views of the valleys around it. We had the use of the bridal suite as well as a selection of other bedrooms for our quests and they were all done up to a very nice standard. We look forward to staying once more to celebrate our anniversary. We are so lucky this is a local venue and pub to us! We wish we could re-live the whole day again!

We were finally fortunate and lucky enough to have a Christmas wedding 2021 without any restrictions at The Bear. With this venue being pet friendly, it meant we could bring our dog with us, the room was set up with a water and food bowl and a nice nice comfy bed for him to sleep in.We want to say a massive Thank You to Becky, Adrian, Chris, Rihanna and the rest of the team at The Bear of Rodborough for making our day so special. You met all expectations and more, the day just flowed. Adrian, thank you for all your efforts on the build up to our day. With multiple cancellations (COVID) and venue change due to our original venue cancelling our date, you made use feel welcome, comfortable and at ease right from the start.Becky, Thank You for looking after us throughout our stay at the hotel, you literally made our day one of the best, most unforgetable days so far. I never felt stressed or worried about anything as you were already covering it or had to done already. Chris, thank you for helping us to assist Grandad in his wheelchair, that was very kind and meant he could be around everyone, for the entire day.Rihanna, thank you for looking after us in the later part of the evening.Everything from the decor and food to the service and atmosphere, it was perfect. A day we will never forget and still makes me smile. We will definitely be returning again soon.Thank you again.Katie and Kieran

Best experience in a hotel for a long time. Great food lots of hide away snugs and comfy chairs. Evenings with friends pass too quickly. Staff are attentive but not intrusive and so friendly, nothing is too much trouble.

Sitting atop Rodborough Common is The Bear at Rodborough, a large hotel/restaurant/gastropub that is popular with locals and tourists alike. We popped through, pre-booking of course, for a Sunday lunch and to relax in the garden. The food was very good, all of those in our party loved the roasts, the beef was thick cut and full of flavour. I had, because I am completely unoriginal, fish & chips which was very nice.It was a big bit of fish too, a few chips (I thought that they were being skimpy on the chips but it was portioned quite well). The fish overall was nice, with gorgeous chips. My friend had a delicious desert which we all agreed was amazing in taste and presentation. For me a good restaurant isn't just about how nice the food is, or how great the service is but how a restaurant deals with problems that might arise. When we came to deal with bill, we noticed that we had been overcharged for two of the meals for our party. On the meals, on the menu it had one price, and the bill had another price. The response from our server was polite but apathetic and unapologetic if not irritated that we were questioning the mistake. Even when she brought out the menu to show us the price, and we pointed out the mistake, there was no apology. One would hope they've updated their menus now to reflect the true prices.Other reviews here have shown how great this pub is, service and food have been praised, and maybe today was just an off-day the server who we were dealing with at the end, but unfortunately it was enough to stick in our minds after we left.
