I have a meal here last night and had to write a review.I had the beef and ale pie and was not disappointed. The pastry was made on the premises and the beef was of a very high standard as well. The vegetables were very fresh. The chunky chips were of the same high standard, as the pie.I will admit by far the best pie I have eaten. The staff were very courteous and interacted well.I can nor recommend visiting here enough.

Lovely little English pub in beautiful Burford. Nice staff and dog friendly which is always useful! Food was amazing and big portions…we both had a pie as other reviews recommended them. I’m not a pie lover but even I agree these pies were delicious. Starter was also lovely. Overall a lovely meal and would definitely go again!

We visited the Royal oak on the 28th Jan 22. We had a table booked for 7.15pm, due to the distance we traveled (from Yorkshire and London) we under estimated our timings and arrived 10 minutes late. We were met by the most miserable person at the front of house. I would have understood her terrible attitude if the pub had been really busy but there were several tables available. This attitude continued throughout the whole evening which really tarnished our experience.i must say the food was good for pub food but this person running front of house should consider if she is happy in the job she is being paid to do.

Had a great meal at The Royal Oak on Saturday afternoon.Had never visited any pubs in Burford before, but did our research and found this place was apparently famous for its pies. The food did not dissapoint! We ordered the Chicken pie with chips and Curry Lamb pie with Mash. Both lovely, would STRONGLY recommend the Lamb, the spices were on point! Which is not easy to get right in pub food. We did find the prices of the pies were expensive, when compared to the rest of the food.I give 4* as I felt the atmosphere was not the best. It's a little run down, could do with a makeover.

My wife and I both had really tasty proper pies in here and the pub was warm which has been lacking in 1 or 2 other pubs just recently. Overall very friendly and enjoyable.

A fantastic Sunday lunch at The Royal Oak!The atmosphere in the pub and the welcome/service/attention from the staff was superb and made the afternoon the highlight of a weekend in the Cotswolds. The pies were fresh, packed full of flavour and ingredients and worth travelling a long way for, whilst the other food was thoughtfully presented and very tasty. Thank you so much.

Came here for lunch after reading very positive reviews online. We both had pies with chips and seasonal veg. I had curried chick pea pie my partner had goats cheese with caramelised onion with chestnut. The pies were big, filled to the brim, cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. My partner turned to me at the end of the meal and said "That was the best pie I have ever had" To which I replied "That is the best meal I have ever had"! The pub which had been on site since 1615 was beautiful, great atmosphere with and very welcoming and cheerful landlord and landlady. The staff were nice. The atmosphere was great. The beer was great the wine was nice the prices were very reasonable especially when you take everything I have said into account. 5 stars awarded but I wish I could give 6 stars out of 5. I live 90 mins away from this pub but I will make it back there one day soon and so should anyone who reads this review. Enjoy.

Wow wow wow!! Had the most delicious meal here, I am gluten free and always dread going out to eat as the gluten free menu is usually an afterthought, I was able to order a pie (something I've not been able to have for years) and it was absolutely delicious. Also four dessert menu options for me, absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for a great meal

Booked a table for a Friday night, managed to get sat down early following some drinks at the bar.Food was lovely, had the chicken and local nduja sausage, and the wife had the vegetarian goats cheese and chestnut pie. Both great portions and delicious.Very friendly bar staff and waitresses, and nice atmosphere with the fire on.See you again soon for another good meal!

We turned up without a table reservation on a Saturday lunchtime and although they were incredibly busy, we were accommodated by the staff and chef. Incredibly polite and friendly throughout our interactions. Food was excellent - perfectly cooked steak, and a delicious pie. Generous portion, didn't even need dessert. Would definitely recommend.
