Puffing Billy in East Devon

You would have thought a good burger and fries would be easy for a gastropub, but not here. A dry poor quality burger, thin soggy base bun, and the fries were some kind of oven cooked wedge that had fallen into pieces and looked unappealing. Not enjoyable.

Lovely mid way stop between Lympstone and Topsham, great pint and nice outside space, being a st Austell brewery pub I always find the same excellent service, good choice of food and drinks... well worth a stop!

Gone downhill since I last visited prices have shot up we were being rushed to order asking if we wanted to order dessert before we had chosen a main course. I ordered the southern fried chicken burger which was overdone, my partner ordered pork medallions which when arrived was actually thinly sliced loin steaks not pork fillet as would normally be served so had to trim the fat off.I am wondering whether if the decline is due to the pub now belonging to a brewery chain as my 1st visit years ago was way better than this???

Staff were nice but the service was ridiculously slow. The food wasn't great, the rice I had tasted like it was out of a microwave packet. Was very disappointed as I'd heard good things about it. A nice looking pub but food was not worth the money.

We booked our work Christmas dinner recently and I personally thought the food and service was excellent. The staff were polite, even with a busy evening they were always making an effort to check on our party and assist whenever needed. The food, of which varied from the Christmas menu, was delicious with generous servings and the prices were very reasonable considering the quality. I would highly recommend for groups, small or large.

Nice location and surroundings. Booked a table for Xmas menu. However they said the Xmas menu wasn't available. Picked off a la carte. I had fish and chips. The batter was a bit pale and not as crisp as I would like. The fish a bit wet and chips not hot. No I didn't complain at the time as we were there for a nice evening out. The standard of food should be good every time. I don't think I will go again! Very disappointed. Staff were nice and friendly though.

Lovely food and super service.We’ve (8 of us) just enjoyed a lovely lunch, everyone enjoyed the food and the staff were superb.I had the Dartmoor burger which was very flavoursome and came with a good portion of tasty chips. I also enjoyed the brownie which was amazing :)This is the second time I’ve been and will definitely be going back.

Absolutely perfect from start to finish. Parking: we managed to find a space in the pub's own car park though there is plenty on the road outside. There are some decent outside areas which ar the moment might only be for drinking.Once in the pub via the main entrance we were quickly seated and a drinks order was taken. First impressions: very clean, well.organised and a friendly, family atmosphere. The menu looked very appetising and we were sure we'd have a starter as well as a dessert either side of the main. We both went for fish cakes, then steaks. The mains in particular were absolutely delicious. For dessert I had the chocolate tart - it was the perfect end to this meal and afterwards we walked down to the waterside to round off a great evening at The Puffing Billy. Highly recommend!

The question is how was the Puffin Billy Inn? Well let me tell you it was excellent 👌I didn't eat here but could see from the amount of people eating that the quality and range of food was to high standardsThe staff were accommodating and best of all really friendly. I like a good ale and a fresh barrel of Proper job was just ready and a damn fine pint it was tooCouldn't fault the establishment for presentation and cleanlinessTwas also idyllic with the sound of the sea just of in the distance. Thumbs up from me, definitely returning here.
