Redwing Bar and Dining in East Devon

We wanted a place to enjoy a drink or two with friends, where we wouldn't have to raise our voices to chat. Sadly, our first option was not only very noisy but quickly told us they would be shutting very soon. We moved on, and went to the Redwing. Oasis of calm, Lovely ambiance, and fab service. Perfect on a Sunday evening.

Absolutely shocking. On the website cannot book other than call...but they say on the website come in and try. So I thought friendly place. I entered and not busy. The bartender was adamant fully booked and no food service. I asked if I could get soup at the bar. No. Because the kitchen cannot make food for anyone who did not book...not even for soup in a corner at the bar. But a friendly couple at the bar said she can take my order for soup. The bartender was not pleased. But succumbed. No knife for butter. The soup was ok but wow I should of just left. Never will I ever return. Wow such horrendous treatment for not booking - but thank you to the couple.

I've been eating out in this area for the last 3 months whilst working away from home. My one regret, I didn't discover this place sooner! You walk in to a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Plenty of people enjoying themselves, but no rowdiness. Greeted by friendly and polite staff who make you feel welcome. The website says the menu is restricted at the moment due to covid, however they still manage to provide something to suit most tastes. The food itself is simply wonderful! From a delicious carrot, ginger and honey soup to a perfectly cooked steak and a delightful dessert! Simply fantastic. A true pleasure, so much so that that was last night and I'm back tonight for my last meal before heading home!

Beautiful, traditional, nicely decorated pub. We came here for a work Christmas lunch. Meal was tasty, polite staff and swift service.

Have eaten here many times before and the food and service are consistently amazing. Just a couple of beers this time, but lovely atmosphere and ambience, great staff and nice beer. Will always come back here when I'm visiting.

Not been to Red Wing for a while, thanks to covid etc... But so glad we did ... So good to see James and the team again, the food was absolutely fantastic, there was 5 in our group so had a variety of the menu, apple and walnut salad to start delightful fresh & crisp, I had the pork belly..omg it just fell apart, the cod loin was cooked perfectly as was the fish and chips... The gnocchi was very good ... It's so easy to write this review as it was such a top quality experience and one we will definitely be repeating ... I feel a Sunday lunch coming on 😁

The Redwing Inn went above and beyond to accommodate my gluten and garlic allergies. They specially prepared me a delicious bespoke halloumi kebab, not only taking into account my dietary needs but also food preferences. The food was good value, the staff friendly and we were made so welcome. We also took a pretty walk around the village after the meal which I would recommend to anyone else visiting.

I sometimes come here with my nan and it has never disappointed. Staff are friendly and there's a cozy but refined atmosphere. I had their special cocktail which had sake and a Japanese melon liqueur which was full of nostalgic flavours as I used to live there. I had duck, which was tasty, a little tough but duck usually is. The vegetables were delicious, tender and flavourful. I had a duck and potato mixed patty of some kind, which was a little too salty for me, but overall a nice meal.
