🏠 Stevens Cross, Sidford, Sidmouth EX10 9QL
"A resplendent thatched-roof Inn, located in the heart of Devon, two miles from the coastal town of Sidmouth. With eight recently renovated rooms, the Blue Ball is a snuggly, seaside treat of a place. Locally sourced seafood specials are the order of the day, supplied by renowned Cornish fishmonger Flying Fish, coupled with a well-stocked bar of real ales, liveners & pick me ups! Our cosy corners, eccentric finishing touches and curiosities make for quite the venerable experience. Only heightened by our splendid rear garden which promises to provide a welcome haven."

We were a party of 4 for dinner. The roast dinners were warm but not hot, the vegetables not even warm. Myself, I had a starter and some chips, I had the wild mushroom arancini, which was a very small portion to cost £7.5 (see the picture). We had to ask for sauces twice to different people and it took a long time before they got them to the table. Puddings took 25 minutes to arrive, we were even thinking about just leaving without having them, meanwhile we could hear people chatting in the kitchen all along. Both the sticky Toffee pudding and the apple flapjack crumble we found overly sweet. Average experience.

Delicious Sunday roast. Had the belly pork and it was superb. Staff were friendly and helpful. Lovely atmosphere and child friendly without being whilst retaining 'olde worlde' put feel. Will definitely return.

We popped in today on the spur of the moment to eat.We had an amazing meal. I had the panfried lamb and my husband had the Cod in herb crust. The food was beautifully cooked and presented . Staff were friendly and attentive. We were also welcomed by a lovely warm fire.We will be back and thank you.Wendy and Chris

Went there for funeral wake. Lovely food, excellent staff and nice pub overall. Didn't stay overnight so can't comment on that but from what I experienced I would rare it highly.

I was working in the the blue ball doing the fire extinguisher assessment and installation so I was able to see the whole building from top to bottom.I was greeted by sarah the manageress a really friendly and welcoming lady, who made me a really tasty coffee...The one thing I noticed above all else was how clean the whole place was..As shown on the photos, the pub and the accommodation was spotless throughout... I was also in the bedrooms, the kitchen and places that the public don't have access to...The entire venue was tip topI would defiantly stay and eat from the blue boy in Sidmouth and I'm pretty fussy...There is a huge carpark over the road, suitable for caravans being towed or motor homesWhile I was on site there was numerous cleaners, gardeners, window washers and kitchen staff... All working hard to make sure this building was kept pristine. The breakfasts being served to the guests looked and smelled amazing. The open fires created a really homely feeling throughout the dining and drinking areasThe function room was large with a small bar and the gardens were well kept and inviting Ready for the warmer weather.Even though I never stayed or ate here (just had a coffee) I feel confident from the experience I had that this would be a great place to stay and eat if in the Exeter (sidmouth) area. There is another venue in Exeter called The Blue Ball in the Ex10 area so just to be sure this is the one in Sidmouth

On Christmas Day we were warmly welcomed &offered warm mulled Punch, then shown to our table. We were escorted along a route past many alcoves, attractive and comfortable. The service was friendly & efficient. Each course was perfect and hot, delicious food.We both chose crab for starters, both selected Devon Lamb, especially flavoursome, then enjoyed desserts. For myself Eton Mess - all I coukdmanage by then. My friend selected Christmas pudding. It looked wonderful.Tho it was a trek from Plymouth we were both delighted with our visit to the Blue Ball, Sidford!

What a lovely place to stay, eat and hold a function. The landlady and landlord couldn't do enough, were very attentive. Beautiful rooms, well equipped. Food was lovely. We held a wake for my mother in laws funeral there today. Wonderful buffet, more than enough food for everyone.
