Staying at The George was a bit of a mixed experience. It just went under new management and it was very apparent from how most of the workers didn't seem to be comfortable in the environment or entirely know what they were doing. The breakfast selection was small and wasn't the best. In general though, the staff and kitchen issues should be rectified in the coming weeks with more time and training, so this is very understandably bad timing on my part.In terms of rooms, they were pretty solid. Mine had a crooked floor, but it overall added to the charm. Unfortunately, because of the fact that the building is surrounded by roads, keeping your windows open in the morning is a matter of choosing between a breeze and sleep. The provided fan is helpful, but doesn't fully make up for the heating issues. However, this is something that couldn't be solved without expensive renovations to an old building.Overall I had a decent time in The George, but it does need some minor improvements, many of which will come with time. I look forward to trying to stay here again once the new management gets more solidly established.

The new owners have done wonderful things in a short space of time - beautifully clean and well presented, good menu, top notch service. So much character and yet full of contemporary vibe and vitality. The ambiance is lovely - large, light, airy rooms and public spaces with good attention to detail. Nice terrace for al fresco food and drink. The staff were extremely welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The George is perfectly situated for the Jurassic Coast, day trips to Dartmoor and all Westcountry attractions and Axminster itself is a quiet, attractive little town. We loved it!

I have been staying at The George regularly since it reopened as I visit Axminster monthly. It has always been a welcoming environment but the atmosphere has definitely improved drastically since James and Tommy took over. Good to have you back gents

Having randomly popped in for a few drinks and food we had a lovely evening. The bar tender was very attentive. We really enjoyed our time having a couple of drinks and food which where very nice.Only suggestion would be to have a couple of board games (mine and my partner's preference to play board games whilst waiting for food and drinks)We would highly recommend this establishment 🙌🏻Looking forward to go again when next back down 🙂

First time we have been to the George since the refurbishment. Its a lovely space, tasteful, warm and friendly. We had fish and chips not adventurous I know but it was very delicious. Just a little on the pricy side for portion size.
