The Malt House in East Devon

Went in for an evening drink whilst down on holiday, wasn't allowed to order at the bar and told to sit at a high table and someone would take our order. After 5 mins someone actually took our order....15 mins later, the one person at the bar got round to doing ours.Whilst waiting, at least 2 locals came in and ordered at the bar.I don't want to be told where to sit when I go somewhere for a drink. We felt like we were an inconvenience because we weren't there to eat.I wouldn't recommend this place to go for a drink.

Excellent meals twice in one week! We were on holiday looking for fish and chips at 5pm on a Monday evening. The meals we had were very good quality and sensible portion size. The prices are reasonable too. Later in the week, with local cafes closing at 4pm we returned to The Malt House and were not disappointed. My husband had the lasagne and I the salmon with mixed vegetables. Both dishes were delicious and well cooked. It was obvious a lot of care goes into the preparation of the food and the staff were friendly too. We would recommend The Malt House.

What a little gem. To say the area as a whole is struggling for staff, this establishment is going above and beyond customer service even in short staff levels . I'd like to mention Matthew and Beth in particular for exceptional personal service but the whole time are a delight. They do not stop! The fact that the management are away and they run as team is an absolute credit to them. Food blooming great . We visited here multiple times throughout our stay. We will be back ! Thank you so much guys 💓

Snacked on tasty bacon, brie and chips outside in the sun obviously the tipple was lager. Clean friendly tavern Great staff courteous a d helpful. Recommended!

Lovely food, good selection if drinks but above all the service was 2nd to none.Quick and efficient delivered by pleasant helpful staff

What a lovely place and lovely staff. I had the fish cakes and my wife had sausage and mash. Both meals were excellent very tasty and plenty of it. My one criticism would be there needed to be more gravy. Definitely VFM, yes would visit again!!

Looks a lovely pub from the outside and the same can be said about inside too. The food was amazing and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. For a 3 course meal and drinks the price was good too. I'll definitely return in the future next time I'm around that way.

I only ever give 4 stars when it's exceptional.The malt house has great service and very decent food. I have no complaints. I really enjoyed the meal. 8oz Burger properly made and cooked.

Good service, good food, reasonable price, would recommend the burgers and fish and chips! Only complaint is garden plans and now mushy peas with fish and chips
