The Proper Fish & Chips Co. in East Devon

The portions of fish are large, but chips cost extra and portions are small. Also they handed us enormous takeaway bags and when we opened them there were no tartar sauce, paper napkins, or cutlery. The sign even specifically says fish & chips come with sauce...Shopfront small and more fume-y than other fish & chips places.

Great little place, hidden away from the high street or the beach front. The prices were reasonable and the batter was thin and crispy. Fish was freshly fried to order and it tasted amazing. They even have eco friendly sustainability theme going on with the knives and forks and also the containers for sauces which were made from plant based materials

At £9.95 the large cod wasn’t cheap, but it was excellent. Luckily we didn’t have long to wait. The staff were really pleasant and helpful. The fish itself was a decent size and was cooked to perfection. Would definitely recommend.

Had fish and chips last night very very nice staff was brilliant but one thing please look after your staff I had to wait 15 mins to get served and I was sweating buckets the staff are there all night so I felt that how hot it was in there there should of been a fan for them but after all that the food was brilliant

One of the best. chips shops.for gluten free food.all cooked in separate fryers.staff are very friendly.

Drove here from Cullompton (on Sunday 27th March at about 1300 hrs) based on their reviews and we were not disappointed - they were very busy and felt for the two guys in there working flat out but by god they were worth the wait - probably the best fish and chips (from a takeaway) I have had for a very long timeFish was lightly battered which was excellent - not too thick or greasy and the chips were hot and crispy and not at all greasyI would highly recommend - but be prepared to wait - quality takes time and is definitely worth the wait!!!Well done guys and I hope you had a well earned rest after today!!

Excellent lightly battered large cod and regular chips eaten at the four place table inside. Not a plastic container. The open late convenience store two doors up is handy as well. I'll be back. 110m north of Krispies, give both a try, each is excellent

Stumbled across this place after an impromptu trip to the seaside. So glad we did. Absolutely outstanding. Steak pie was proper good. Chips amazing. Large cod was well worth the price, and nice free tartare sauce is a nice touch. Huge tip, the curry sauce is incredible, and the gravy was like homemade, just beautiful. Highly recommended
