Shimizu Sushi in Exeter

Amazing food, and a fantastic service. Can’t wait to go back again.

Menu says 6 types of fish of sashimi for £22 and arrived with 3 types instead of 6 (the majority being prawns). I asked about this as it was falsely advised on the menu.Ate the meal as I’m too bloody polite to send it back. Enquired about the price after as it was only 3 types of fish…. Was told that it was only 3 types because of import troubles - I was advised that the price was the same because I ate the meal and I “should have sent it back”. Bear in mind that there was another meal on the menu for 3 types of fish, but was forced to pay £20 (with £2 off as a consolation).Should have said that BEFORE the order was served (not “oh I should have told the server, my bad” hoping that I wouldn’t notice)Really bad experience!

Forced to pay 10% service fee at the conclusion of the meal. When asked why, was told that the restaurant needed to pay 20% VAT so customers needed to pay 10% to cover them. No notice of this policy was written on their menus or outside their door. Felt bullied to abide by this illegal practice. Shame they took this approach as it ruined an otherwise nice experience. 😕

Absolutely loved this restaurant. I got to try some new sushi items I'd never had before, the staff were friendly friendly but the food was absolutely out of this world. I will definitely be returning.

Don't know where my previous review went, but I've gotten delivery from here twice now, both times the unagi don & agedashi tofu because they're delicious. The don portion was quite small the first time but increased the second time! I like that the takeout container is UK-made, too. Would definitely get food from here again.

Had lunch here recently. Had vegetable tempura with duck sushi rolls, chicken teriyaki and sizzling beef mushroom. Food promptly came. Food was delicious and the portions were great. Was so full. Would recommend. Polite customer service.

everyone come to this place! they have a wide range of japanese food, not just sushi. they have noodles, rice dishes, fish dishes etc and they taste amazing! i’m not even a fan of fish but their sushi is great i really recommend

Ordered ahead. Very friendly, very helpful and absolutely great tasting sushi! Highly highly recommended! Much more superior than any chain sushi takeout!
