Definetly not a 3 star hotel! It's falling apart! Booked 2 nights and stayed only one. Noise until gone 1 o'clock in the morning! Holes in the towels, grime in the shared bathroom (not announced on the site when we booked) mould and holes on the walls and ceiling. The windows don't close. And the TV didn't work! A very low quality breakfast. On the plus side very lovely people and location!

Lovely pub. Very Forest of Dean, in a good way. Food is pretty good. Drink selection is great. Staff are friendly too. Although one of the young girls was a bit 'inexperienced' with her customer service. All round definitely a good place to go.

Great pub and lovely hosts. Had a Sunday roast which was beautifully cooked and the Pavlova is to die for . I'd recommend this pub to anyone with a dog too as there's a big field for them to play in and drinking bowls provided. All in all a lovely experience and look forward to coming back soon.

friendly staff, always polite which is a good place to start.Iam leaving feedback to help not hurt the pub.. as i am local. The food is ok but with a tweek would iam sure pack the place out once word got around.. worth the staff or owner going to the white hart at newnham to see what basic pub food can be like>> its on a par price wise with the oak but streets ahead for value, order whale and chips (xl cod) even the standard fill the plate and its fresh fried fillet, not frozen youngs or whatever it is.why not source local boar for boar burgers, were in the forest !!stick it in a nice brioche bun with a wooden meat skewer rammed in top loaded with onion rings and a side of twice fried chips proper chips in a local beer batter with a side of fresh slaw not frozen chips fish frozen and tinned peas ,local free range eggs and ham,use the forest guys,we have some fantastic produce locally

We were touring in the area and found the Royal Oak by accident. Good traditional pub. Friendly, food not fancy but good, very pleasant evening.

Lovely pub, good atmosphere. Internet jukebox, we spent a lot of money remembering old tunes.

A typical local pub - looks ok - inside is a bit dark and doesn't inspire too much confidence in terms of cleanliness. Visited it for a birthday party that took place and whilst the kids had great fun I am not sure I would go here on a regular occasion or for food.
