This is a cracking pub and restaurant, tucked out of the way in an ancient part of the world! The service is great, even when it’s rammed to capacity. There is a good selection of ales and the food is delicious.

Absolutely fantastic evening with loved ones. We were sat in one of the outbuildings for dinner and everyone said that the room was stunning. High ceilings, giant chandelier and a cozy log burner. The food was exceptional and the portions generous. We would all definitely go back and have already planned to take the inlaws. The service was excellent as well with our waitress giving us spot on menu tips. 100% if you are in the area (or even remotely nearby) make sure you visit.

Fantastic, tasty Sunday roast enjoyed by us and the kids with really good and prompt service. Fab homemade ginger beer. Will be going back.

Came to Wells and The Talbot Inn based on a recommendation and so we made a booking.Upon arrival my partner and I were welcomed by a member of staff and shown to our table which situated in a very warm and cosy area. We were brought some drinks and we perused the menu. There was a great choice of dishes so we sought recommendations from the lady serving us. We were recommended the Hogget Croquettes and we also ordered the fish and chips. The food came quickly and was piping hot . The Croquettes were delicious and the fish and chips was perfectly cooked and fresh. Having enjoyed this we shared a seasonal crumble for desert which was delicious. In terms of price the food was great value for money and the atmosphere of the place was warm and inviting. It seemed like a popular spot not just to eat but also for a pint after a walk in the countryside. Should we find ourselves in the areas we would be sure to return.

This is one of four in the group and the friends we went with had already been to the Beckford Inn. Beautiful location in the village of Mels, near Frome, an old wool town and mining area, many buildings dating from the 15th century. Menu not extensive and better for that. Three of us had the venison and all gave it the thumbs up. I had the veggie gnocchi which, despite being with salad, could have been a lot warmer. I did wish I'd had the venison! Mains washed down with a very good Malbec. For pudding, three had the Dorset apple pie, I opted for the rice pudding. Again thumbs up for the pie and I could easily have had the rice again, it was excellent!! Staff were attentive, friendly and chatty, overall a good atmosphere. Now to visit the others in the group.

Friendly, efficient service and nice food. Well thought-out menu that didn't just stick to the obvious pub/restaurant usuals

Came in here for food with my girlfriend a couple of weeks ago. Food was outstanding! Couldn’t find any faults with anything! The staff were friendly and polite, the pub was clean with a good selection of beers and wine. Would definitely recommend anyone to visit this pub for food or even just pop in for drinks if they have the chance!

Still fabulous. Food + drink + relaxed vibe. Squash soup was great, as were scallops. Mullet in a kind of Asian broth and veggie main, and a Blondie and some cheese to follow. We had a superb Croatian white wine I had never heard of.A real treat. We went home very haopy

An absolutely stunning meal that left us wanting to come back again and again. Mullet with Asian noodles and the burger were absolutely delicious, following by some stunning desserts. We all just wanted more. The service was very friendly and knowledgeable on the menu, welcoming for dogs. Highly recommended.

We almost cancelled our booking as I wasn’t feeling great but so glad we didn’t. The Talbot is an incredible pub in a beautiful setting. The food is exquisite and there’s a great selection of drinks. It’s dog-friendly too
