Popular pub with great value, tasty food!

Fantastic, full of character and such a traditional genuine place for a beer, watching the taps being hammered into the barrels is fascinating and makes you feel like you're taken back in time, one thing to note, CASH ONLY! ... We were unaware of this, kindly the owners let us have drink the beers and we popped back with the money, 5/5 from us

A real time warp. The only thing that gave it away was the modern till, Covid screens and lack of cigarette smoke. Not sure how millenials would cope with the mobile phone ban.The last time the bar area was refitted and decorated was probably 1960's which by todays standards would be retro. I believe the pub has passed down through the same family over the years. Didn't exactly receive the warmest of welcomes from the landlord but I think that's his demeanor. Locals were chatty enough. Cosy open fire. Food and real ale choice were excellent and very cheap indeed. Public Houses like this are a rarity these days so cherish them while you still can. Highly recommended 👌.

This is how country pubs should be, an experience in its self before you even order a drink. Don't expect pleasent and witty bar staff it ain't happening and if your seen on the phone it will get nailed to a piece of 4x2. How refreshing to just talk shot a d drink with friends

Perfect traditional country pub. Small place, beer and cider from the barrel (a small but exceptionally high quality selection, with no taps to be seen at the bar). Absolutely delicious, hearty food. One of the best welcomes you will ever see from a pub landlord. If you are anywhere nearby, give the Hunters' Lodge a try, you will remember it for a long time.

Such a lovely place, very helpful and welcoming. We were on a very long bike ride and could not get any food in any of the other pubs locally. So called in here, they had just want we needed, carb heavy pasta and some lovely ales. Did not take cash, but they allowed us to send them a cheque in the post. Such a fantastic little find!

Why am I giving this wonderful pub 5 stars? I don’t want anyone else to come and spoil it. Everything about it is top notch. Try the food and stay the whole afternoon. Fantastic walks at nearby Stock Hill.
