The Red Lion of Woolverton in Mendip

Found this gem on a recent trip to UK from USA, great hospitality, owner / chef was amazing and food was top notch british pub standard. A rare treat, if you are ever in the area stop by and soothe your taste buds with their homemade delights.

I feel angry with myself that I have just walked out of this place and not complained and just paid the bill. The food was so awful. When our starters arrived (which were mediocre) she went to serve it to me which I kindly asked if she could give it to my mother (we ordered the same) to which she replied ‘I’ll just give it to you as I’m next to you’ and proceeded to put it infront of me. Couldn’t quite believe it, Really rude and so unprofessional. The food was basically freezer food, me and my son ordered a burger to which I had about 7 chips and he had a big portion, seemed like customers were clearing the table, couldn’t work out who was who. It really was a complete shambles and I will not visit again, ruined what should have been a good night. All in all really not worth a visit.

Food was absolutely vile. Had a burger and it tasted like something you would get from a boot sale burger van. Bun was going soggy from the grease and the chips tasted like yesterdays. Other meals in my group weren’t great either. Then the chef had the cheek to come out and shout at my mother. Not a great experience overall and was not worth £10.95.

First time visit on New years Day. Very nice little pub and the food was delicious.

Lovely place, we were turned away by two other local pubs, wish we'd found this first. Staff were lovely and friendly. Food was delicious and at a reasonable price for a 3 course. We don't often find a style of pub like this with it's particular kind of atmosphere. This was perfect and turned our day around immensely. Thank you to the staff at The Red Lion.

We were made very welcome and were able to have a drink outside in the sunshine before enjoying a wonderful Sunday Roast inside. Meal and service were first class. Highly recommended.

Wonderful place to take a time great place, good atmosphere and great food. Nice staf. The chef is the best.

A quick pit stop one Saturday just for a lunchtime drink. Very pleasant bar staff, easy parking, and ample outside seating. Clean toilets.
