Canal Tea Rooms and Gardens in Mid Devon

Utterly disappointed!!My friends booked me a baby shower here for today...I have previously attended a baby shower here (3 years ago) and it was lovely...I'm not sure it ownership has changed, but today was an absolute horrific experience!We were expecting 20 guests, including my heavily pregnant self, 2 wheelchair users and a new baby.So we purposefully booked the outside shed room so we had space for everyone, and did not disturb other customers. This is what happened the previous shower, but with only 8 guests.When my friends arrived to set up, they were rudly advised the room had been doubly booked, and a party of 20 were due an hour after our party started!So therefore we were all crammed into a tiny corner with nowhere to move.Some dogs also entered the room, and became very distressed and barking due to the volume of people.We asked to speak to the manager after even the staff commented 'I don't know why it had been booked like this. I'm so sorry it is awful'.The manager came to speak to us... And instead of apologising for the monumentus c**k up, she began shouting, and accusing us of things. Then contradicting herself!Unfortunately by this point we had already ordered our extortionatly priced food, so had no option to stay.To add insult to injury, various people in the party had hairs, human and dog! In our food!I will certainly never be visiting again, or holding a party here.Absolutely diabolical establishment!!The waitresses were absolutely lovely tho.

Ordered 4 ice-creams and 4 ice smoothies to take away got charged for a Devonshire cream tea which was not ask for.Had to queue back to get money back for the cream tea.When order came out only the ice-creams came out, then had to wait another 5 minutes for the ice smoothies to come out after I asked where they was.Once we had our ice smoothies not iced just flavoured drinks.Will not use again.

5 stars for being open on monday lunchtime in April bank holiday, when the rest of Tiverton was closed! Also a really charming sun trap, with tasty cream tea.

Really nice cream tea here. Lovely place. Food looked amazing that was coming out of the kitchen.

Beautiful location next to the Great Western canal. Gluten free & vegetarian options available. There is a garden area and a small under cover area. I really loved it here and if the opportunity arises I will go back. Thank you!

Excellent tea and scones.. Very friendly staff and very good set up..quite reasonable prices too!!

Lovely scones with jam and clotted cream. Nice to sit in the garden. Worth a visit.😁

We stopped here for a quick lunch. There were quite a few vegan options. Although gluten free options weren't marked on the menu they were able to offer me a gluten free roll and there were jacket potatoes on the menu. They do non dairy milk as well.Lovely little garden with tables and a few tables inside. Dogs were allowed both in the garden and inside.Worth a visit for lunch if you need vegan options and non vegan options.

Have to say this one of the best and friendliest Tea Rooms I have visited. I hope that the staff see this review. We ordered 2 ham sandwiches which were really tasty and filling, along with tea and coffee. We finished off with 2 of Farmer Tom's ice creams. Lovely tasting flavours and a bit different. Really well priced food and great value. Stunning garden in a great location. Will look forward to returning.

A gem!Excellent location for a good walk with the dogs along the canal path finished off with a cream tea or tasty lunch.The space is managed very safely by superbly attentive staff, well priced home cooked food and very efficient service in a dog friendly atmosphere!Thankyou to you and your team, you stand out !
