Lunch excellent and a young lady all on her own running things very well indeed. Very comfortable seating, dated but immaculate in appearance. Very old pub in excellent order and toilet area features modern amenities including renovated overhead "pull the chain" cisterns from days gone by...most unusual! Would happily call in again for lunch.

Staying with a friend in the village. Very busy when we went. Lovely food. Good choice of beers, ciders, lagers etc. Nice place

Fantastic overnight stay.Arrived in Hatherleigh by bike to stay the night and there's not much choice. Was going to stay at the Tally Ho but they haven't opened rooms since COVID started and they gave us the mobile of a B&B that didn't pick up so we blew our budget on the George. So glad we did. The lady that checked us in was lovely, showed us where to out the bikes, arranged for someone to get the bikes out in the morning, showed us up to the room and asked the chef to make up a packed lunch as we had to leave before breakfast began. (Just eaten the brownie and it was probably the best brownie I've tasted in my life)The room was very comfortable and the bath/shower especially was horgepus. Big bath and powerful hot shower which was just what we needed after a day's bike ride. All in all highly recommend.

Went for a roast today and was bitterly disappointed. On arrival the pub was busy with people eating and drinking we were shown to our table and we were told somebody would come over and take our drinks order, we had to wait ages for this and by this point the part of the pub we were eating in was empty. On the way back to bringing our drinks the lady dropped two and left ice and drink to melt all over the floor then when the replacement drink was brought over we were told ‘we’re out of ice’ no apology. She left without taking our food order and again we had to wait for that to happen. Once we had ordered food it took 50mins for our plated roasts to come which were frankly disgusting. One plate of food was ordered with mixed meat and this was served as pork. The woman then came back and said she had got the food wrong and somebody was eating the mixed meal that had been given as pork. Again no apology. We asked for extra gravy and that wasn’t brought over. The pork was very fatty, more chicken skin than chicken meat, potatoes clearly reheated as dry and Crystal like, parsnips so hard you could hardly eat them and the cauliflower cheese was just cheese sauce didn’t even have a bit of cauliflower in mine. We weren’t ever offered another drink and decided to skip pudding as didn’t want to be waiting for another hour for something probably reheated. We won’t return and this is a real shame as used to be a lovely pub but seemed more of a drinkers pub today. The best and only good part of the experience was the chocolate mints when we paid the bill!!

Well the outside was nice, well lit with plenty of seating and space for social distancing. Other tha. That I wouldn't have a clue. I arranged to arrive late and had approval from the staff on the phone.... Only to turn up to a locked up building and no staff or number to call to gain entry. I am still stood here waiting for someone to let me in.....
